I wish I could leave zero stars. I can't speak about the service or atmosphere. It was ordered for delivery. But just judging from the takeout order, my first impression is I can't see myself going in for lunch or dinner at BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse in San Bruno. I certainly can not recommend the Chicken Alfredo with broccoli dish nor the Caesar salad. My order was a half and half chicken Alfredo with a half rack of ribs and a house caesar salad. I was definitely not impressed. The portions were just not up to par. The entree take out container was ample size, but it looked like it was about one-third full. Same thing with the salad— big ample size container approximately 2½ inches deep, but only about ⅓ (one inch) full with a little lettuce and a few croutons. No parmesan cheese. They were so stingy with everything except the half rack of ribs. There was only one medium stalk of broccoli and two other teeny tiny pieces thrown in/mixed in with the pasta. Not only were they stingy with the pasta too, but they were also stingy with the sauce. The sauce was nonexistent. There was none on the pasta and nothing in the bottom of the takeout container. Just dry. So you're eating dry flavorless pasta. I had to add a little salt and pepper. I don't know about other people, but on a personal note, chicken Alfredo is about the sauce that makes it alfredo. HELLOooo... anyone listening!! I found nothing in the take out bag to help it out — no side(s) of sauce and no parmesan cheese or anything to help it out for the money. Yes, they were stingy with the chicken pieces, too. If I had to rate the half rack of ribs separately, I would probably begrudgingly give it maybe four stars. It could have used a little more barbecue sauce. But the ribs and the one little stalk of broccoli were the best things about the meal. As far as the rest of the meal, it was not a good value for the price point. I hope they will improve on this dish because I can't see anybody coming back to purchase that a second time. It felt like they are trying to serve a popular dish, but only coming up with an inferior knock-off. I'm sorry, but that's the way I felt, like I was somehow robbed. I was stuck with eating it after it was bought with money that could have been spent someplace else. I'm not telling anyone else not to try or buy these dishes, I'm just giving my own personal experience. There's room for much improvement in my book. I hope this is taken as constructive feedback, which, for all intents and purposes, could be and perhaps should be used for improving your product. But I must add, judging from all the negative reviews over such a long period of time (years), it doesn't seem like much is being done to change. Seeing all the negative reviews, this restaurant seems to have systemic problems to the core, right up the corporate ladder. You can tell by all the cookie cutter copy and paste responses to the complaints. Good luck, and please don't bother responding. I've read so many of your negative reviews, so I already know what you're going to say, so spare me and save it, please. My nose is already bleeding from so many negative 1- star reviewers who wish they were given the option to leave a minus 10 on a scale of 10. Thank you, but no thanks. You get me once, that's on you, if you get me twice, well, that's on me. There's always only one question that needs to be asked if corporate management cared enough to be around to see the food that goes out of the kitchen and the service that customers encounter, the question would be: would they like to pay for the type of service and the type of food being doled out. I don't think corporate would like to experience what customers are saying they are experiencing. Enough said... how about a little micro-managing for a change. Or maybe corporate is just full of people who don't know food or service either, or who...
Read moreWe continually keep giving this San Bruno BJs a chance after continually messing up our service, our food and experience and once again they've messed up. We ordered online and after the 30 minute pick up estimate was given, we still arrived 15 minutes after it, to give them a grace period. When we arrived, while the order seemed ready, we were informed that they did not have two(2) 6-packs of RootBeer that we'd ordered. And that would have been fine if not for 1) they've run out of the RootBeer packs before and it took over 1 month for BJs to refund us the $18 dollars (last time, they double charged us instead of removing the pending original charge - so we were charged $134 and $116 for everything sans RootBeer) and 2) they premade 2 plastic packs of Orange Cream and Regular Creme Soda in place of it, without asking us if we'd like replacement drinks (we don't care for cream sodas, that's why we didn't order them). So this time, we've got to wait up to 1 month again for them to refund a measly $18 dollars. We (asked if they could just give us cash and cancel the drinks on the order and they said they couldn't.) Also as I am want to do every time now, as I checked the order to make sure everything was correct, we were missing: a White Cheddar Mashed Potatoes, and an included order of French Fries. 2 starch sides missing isn't a huge deal in and of itself. The problem is that every single time we order, something is missing or incorrect. The to-go receipt even has areas to mark off what items are included and they never are checked so who is confirming our order ever? The service for to-go was nice enough (we never eat in any more because the servers are not attentive at all) but we would assume that the to-go people would check the orders before they claim they are ready. Food: Jambalaya was meh. Flavors were there but the chicken was rock-hard and dry once you were able to bite into it. There was no rice pilaf underneath so I'll include that as missing items. But the shrimp was plentiful and the sausage was yummy. Huge Pretzel was indeed large, but a bit dry/hard (heat it up with a wet paper towel to soften it up). My son enjoyed his pasta, though the Happy Potatoes were undercooked/soggy so we had to pop them in the airfryer for a sec. Sharable pizza is a good size and taste so for the price and size, I wouldn't go larger than that. Prime Rib sandwich was good but a lot of fat/lacking meat. WCM Pizookie was delicious as always, when they get it right (the last 3 times we're eaten in or ordered to-go, we're received the wrong flavor - Sugar, Straw Shortcake which I'm allergic to strawberries so I would have never ordered that, and some flavor like caramel with pretzels?). The pretzels were good and it looks similar to White Choco Macadamia so we understood the confusion, but it was incorrect just the same). Apparently Tanforan is closing soon to be turned into office buildings and such so I assume the quality and effort aren't going up from here, but it is disheartening to know that it seems like no one has any pride in doing...
Read moreSecond time here. Great bartenders Michael and Keith. Personable, accommodating, fun and interesting, and provided great customer service! Very nice selection of beers on tap! Plenty of TV's and fellow enthusiastic football fans. But that's it. Service sitting in a booth in the bar was rude and punative to nonexistent. Seriously, one girl spilled my Goliath all over her tray in an EMPTY bar bringing it to me. I looked at her questioningly, said that's not mine, right? She shrugged, mumbled a resentful "sorry" and left it in front of me, partially full, pooling all over the table, glass and stem coated, no napkin. I asked for a napkin. She never returned. Ever. I flagged down a different girl after 40 minutes and asked for a menu to order food. Food ordered over an 8-hour visit (back to back AFC and NFC playoffs, both into OT) was never once served with silverware to eat it. Got cold waiting until I eventually got up and got it myself, despite being in a wheelchair!! Santa Fe Salad was described as the most hearty and filling salad on the menu; I asked for green lettuce and the salad came with white and yellow Romaine, and only a teaspoon of small cubes of chicken. Server never came back to check on us. Maybe they ran out and served it like that? Avocado spring rolls were served cold and mushy instead of crispy. Asked for the check...waited 15 minutes watching the girl we asked do this and that, back and forth. I said, "Let's get up and leave and that will get us our check....otherwise we will be here forever." We got up, put on jackets, moved me into the wheelchair and LOLOLOLOL all of a sudden a girl was there to ask if we wanted our check. I know they are over worked and at times busy, but the service is abominable. When I wanted another beer or iced water or iced tea or a napkin or silverware, I was forced to get up and hobble over to the bar to get it myself. Then and only then, and only a third of the time, did someone walking around freak out and tell me to go back to my table and it would brought, eventually! Also, for a major Sunday football day, food was exceedingly sub par. Asked for the GM when leaving and both host and hostess were too overwhelmed and said there were no business cards for him. Tried calling later, specially to ask why there was essentially NO chicken on an entree chicken salad, but was told he was unavailable and hung up on. It's too bad this place has such unacceptable food and ridiculously nonexistent service...it's a great location and at least Michael and Keith are...
