Hashes & Brews — Restaurant in San Bruno

My family and I come here quite often, one of our local favorites we can’t wait to go back to! I will attach some photos, but have also have had delicious meals we don’t always take pics of. Some of our favorite go to are the Irish hash, the chicken or the steak Philly cheesesteak, fried chicken sandwich, the jambalaya is so good I love the flavor the perfect spice! I had an amazing mushroom burger with garlic fries. My favorite appetizer is the bruschetta it is so addicting! We also love breakfast the kids enjoy the chocolate chip pancakes, and Belgian tradition waffles. Everything has always been delicious and never had any complaints, always looking forward to returning. It’s always a warm welcoming as you enter always greeted, with great service. They also have a good happy hour if you enjoy a seat at the bar with great TV’s. I’ve had delicious potato skins and chicken skewers. Crystal has been a waitress for years and always treats us like family, and she definitely has her regulars that love her! Including pictures of the New York steak cooked to perfection and smothered in mushrooms. Also the Chicken Massimo, smothered in a delicious mushroom, tomato, spinach, garlic Alfredo sauce it is so good! I got to enjoy a bowl of Chipino as a special one night it was delicious with the bread! My kids also love the Spaghetti for dinner. The service from the gentleman who was supposed to be our server this evening was very disappointing. It took him nearly 20 minutes just to refill drinks, and he never even refilled my Diet Coke. Instead, he spent a lot of time chatting with his coworkers. When I tried to wave him down, he looked irritated, and when I asked for a side of ranch, he abruptly and rudely said they charge for it. The issue wasn’t the charge—it was the attitude and unprofessional way he said it. Thankfully, a young lady working there stepped in to cover for him a couple of times. She was polite, professional, friendly, and smiling throughout—truly the only bright spot of the experience. Unfortunately, the food was just as disappointing. I ordered the skirt steak with gravy, mushrooms, and mashed potatoes—completely bland, no seasoning or flavor. The side of onion rings was a huge letdown 🤢—paper-thin, dried-out onions buried under a heavy, greasy breading.The sweet potato fries were overly oily, and the sauce was unpleasant. It honestly felt like the kitchen was run by someone inexperienced—the food clearly showed a lack of skill and care in preparation. We left very dissatisfied. The only reason this review is not one star is because of the excellent service from the young lady waitress who went out of her way to make up for her coworker’s lack of effort. My family came across this place when we were looking for a restaurant to host as a reception for my son's baptism. We worked with Denny, who is so wonderful and made us feel like family since day one. He worked with us in making sure that the space was ok and even gave us his opinions on what foods would be best to have at the reception. But he also made sure to let us know that it was up to what he wanted and that he would do what we wanted. He continued to work with us up until the day of the party.

The staff at Hashes and Brew is so amazing! The day of the party, they were so prepared and got everything out as quickly as they could. Our family had so much fun and enjoyed the food. We couldn't tell you how many times our family complimented how good the food was and how the portion size was really big. A lot of our guests even had leftovers that they jokingly said could last a few days.

Hashes and Brews is definitely somewhere that feels like family and we can definitely feel that with Denny and his team. We've eaten there a couple of times before our party and each time that we've come we've always felt so welcomed. I remember coming a second time and having one of the staff, Claudia already remember us from the last time that we have come. She always takes great care of us when we come in.
