When Naan Point first opened up, I opened my arms to the heavens and thanked the almighty. Having tried most of the Indian food in the city, I had been left sorely disappointed by the lack of quality and care. Sometimes it felt like the food wasn't even meant for me at all, and I felt a lot of these places get away with being kind of nice and serving some wine to the general populace, but the raw quality of the food was just atrocious, unthinkable to serve as Indian food anywhere in the world.
Naan Point, so far, is different, and I can admit I've eaten there probably 20 times so far, tried various items. (I'm vegetarian.)
There is genuine care and quality to their dishes. They don't nickel and dime you. They actually serve a Thali plate, and it is affordable - it might even be a loss leader, but all their Thali dishes are served fresh and made to order. (If you're the owner and you're reading this - please don't ever remove that option, you can charge me more for it, but I would be gutted if we don't have Thalis anymore.)
Only time will tell if they can sustain this - but as it stands today, it might actually be the best Indian restaurant in a 15 mile radius, it's actually that good. And thank heavens it serves us folk in the San Bruno area. You might think it unassuming but the majority of the clientele in there are not Indian at all. Who would have imagined most other people don't want to be ripped off and just want a nice authentic meal as well? Other businesses could take note. Seriously.
Thanks for saving the day. I really appreciate your business and you'll...
Read moreWasn't a fan the first time though the cousins were. Enjoyed it much more the second time.
The first time we got medium spice for most of our dishes and was really struggling. So the second time we got mostly mild. But the mild had no spice at all. Would love if there was an in between spice level.
Papadi Chaat - medium spice. Crispy. Cold. Didn't know there were spice levels for chaat. This is not a main menu item but instead a special we saw taped at the counter. Would get again
Aloo Tikka Chaat - medium spice. Mixes really well with the papadi chaat
Chicken Vindaloo (mild) & Lamb Vindaloo (medium) - both the vindaloo sauce came out tasting completely different. We don't know if it's because of the spice level or the fats from the proteins but it was different. We enjoyed the lamb vindaloo more.
Chicken korma (mild) - good Paneer tikka masala (mild) - favorite but would have liked a little spice Chicken biryani (mild) - good Garlic naan - have garlicy. Not too oily. Crispy.
All curries comes with rice if you ask for it. There are specials on the counter. Free...
Read moreOur experience with Naan Point was a mix of highs and unexpected lows. We opted for takeout, ordering a selection that included tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, and both garlic and plain naan. The anticipation was high, and the aroma upon opening the containers heightened our expectations.
Unfortunately, the excitement took a hit when, despite our confirmation over the phone, both the butter chicken and chicken tikka masala were noticeably lacking in chicken. The absence of meat in two signature dishes was a surprising letdown, detracting from what would have otherwise been a satisfying meal. The tandoori chicken and naan varieties managed to salvage the experience with their authentic flavors and textures.
While Naan Point showed promise in certain aspects, the inadvertent omission of a key ingredient left us with a less-than-ideal impression. Regrettably, this unexpected turn will likely deter us from returning for another culinary adventure...
