We ended up at Achilles Coffee Roasters @ The Rey after leaving the zoo. The original place we wanted to try was closed, and since we already paid the meter, we decided to walk over here since it was close by. We got there a few minutes before 2 PM, not realizing they closed at that time. One of their other locations showed different hours, so we didn’t expect them to be closing. They still took our order without saying anything about it, which we appreciated. We ordered two regular matchas with oatmilk and vanilla syrup. Unfortunately, both drinks were really disappointing. They had barely any flavor, tasted watered down, and the oatmilk was bland. For $15.50 total, it felt overpriced for what we got. Also, there was a fly around the drink counter, which was a little off-putting. We were really hoping for something refreshing, but the drinks just didn’t hit the mark. Wouldn’t come back based on this experience.

Permanent sponsor of my good mood and amazing coffee every day when I am in San Diego (You can see on photo). My personal choice was split between Swami’s, Golden Hill and Windandsea depends on time of the day and need of caffeine. Do not hesitate to ask about differences between these three and choose what fits you best :) From the sandwich perspective I like Pt. Loma with extra egg as a day starting breakfast. Do highly recommend and always a pleasure to come see my friends here :)

As advertised, the Banker's Hill was truly a killer breakfast sandwich. (Love pretzel rolls!). The Swami's pour over blend coffee was reasonably priced and really good, the Park Blvd smoothie was great. Cappuccino and avocado toast were average. They had professional jazz musicians playing outside which was nice to stumble in on on a Saturday morning.

Ok, I've been meaning to write this review for a while but I have so much to say that I keep putting off. I go here most mornings (even though there are two other coffee shops I pass to get here). The food and coffee are very good, but what keeps me coming back is the staff here. They are SO friendly, know everyones' names and I love seeing how happy and special they make their customers feel (I've been to a couple other achilles and while the staff is very nice, this one somehow has the coolest and warmest group of people around.) There are a bunch of people who work here, but the ones I see most often are Matt, Alex, Li, and Sammy and each of them puts so much into making people feel good.

Also, side-note b/c I sit and have my coffee there a lot, I've seen Matt have to deal with some people causing quite a scene and he shows so much respect and handles those situations in a way that is so respectful it's very cool to see.

Just wanna say thank you for making my mornings...

I had been coming there every morning for coffee and it was fine. I was loyal. One day I looked at the food menu and the manager said "we're out of everything on the menu with meat (which is literally everything). All we have is bread and cheese." I said, "ok, I'm hungry, how bout just bread and cheese toasted.. how much?" The manager replied with an arrogant "six bucks. I don't change the price for you." ($6 is the price of a full sandwich with egg and ham and cheese and such.) I said, "what do you mean I come here all the time with my Boxer dog and order food and coffee and always leave a tip and you're gonna charge me full price for bread and cheese??" "I evoking my right to refuse service to you. You are no longer welcome here."

Meanwhile people standing behind me are flabbergasted like I am at what just happened so I told him he can take his coffee shove it cause that's BS. Don't know the guys name but he has a strong...
