I have been here a few times and I recently just brought my father there after he traveled out of town for Thanksgiving to visit my sister. So on my way back from the airport we decided on this place because he enjoys fresh bread and he's very health conscious. We had some German rye and they were nice enough to slice it as well as a few cinnamon rolls with raisins. The part I wanted to emphasize about my experience there was I inadvertently and to be quite honest moronically left my billfold that lookrd like a CD case over by the coffee preparation area. I say moronically because I had left quite a bit of cash in there by accident along with the menu of course because I wanted to bring a menu home. I do not recall the lady's name but the person I talked to on the phone had a very pleasant Spanish accent and when I inquired about whether or not I left my billfold in their establishment this wonderful human was very kind and asked me what was in there and I frankly said well just cash and she says oh yes it's here and everything is still in it. I said great I will be back in about 30 minutes. I came back and I was happy to find that she was absolutely right everything was still in there and so I was happy to give them at the very least a $25 tip in their tip jar just because of the honesty and Goodwill that they extended. So I'm giving them five stars and more if I could. This place has always been a wonderful place to get fresh breads and sandwiches and what my dad liked about the place was that you can get half a sandwich instead of a whole one. Because he watches his diet and he tries to stay healthy at 72 he sometimes doesn't want to eat a whole entire sandwich or to pay for a whole entire Sandwich price. This is one of the very few places that you can get a fresh sandwich and a half a sandwich for a decent price. I highly recommend this place and I will absolutely be coming back as many times as I can as well as always leaving a big tip in their tip jar. Moreover I wanted to extend my sincerest gratitude to this lovely lady as well as the staff for their honesty. I will definitely be coming back here every time...

This is a buzzing bakery cafe with a wide variety of artisan breads, sandwiches, caffeinated beverages and baked goods. There is almost always a line but two cashiers take care of the customers ordering from the entire menu and one cashier assists bread purchasers only, moving through the guests pretty quickly. My cashier made recommendations as I had trouble deciding between two espresso-based items. The seasonal rose latte was delicious but a tad too sweet for my liking, masking the espresso flavor.

The single slice of the raisin-hazelnut bread was scrumptious with a slathering of salted butter. My only regret was not ordering an additional slice of another flavor to try! The crumb was tender and the crust was not unreasonably hard.

Other reviewers have noted that their pastries are not as excellent and I would have to agree that the brioche dough on the hazelnut twist was a bit dry and lacked the pillowy texture I’ve come to expect from brioche.

Picked up a sourdough baguette for the road and was pleased to see that there were a variety of flavors to choose from. Another customer hugged 6 baguettes of her choosing, paying for them and then walked out happily. I was envious! Haha.

Service is prompt, tables are bussed pretty quickly considering the dining room was almost full with patrons like professors and tutors meeting with students and friends meeting for lunch.

Parking is easy to find, and Liberty Station is a wonderful place to hangout, allowing a pause from the daily grind to pray and give thanks for the beauty of God’s creation and for the brave men and women who continue to fight for our freedoms all...

We had been coming here for a couple years and it has been progressively worse. The bread is good but that's about the only okay thing about this place. I went today and had the rudest and worst experience. We waited 30 minutes in line to order then we waited an hour for a SINGLE sandwich and cinnamon roll. In all it took almost two hours for 1 sandwich! When I complained the supposed owner was rude to me about me asking a girl behind the counter and slowing her down to make sandwiches. Then it took another 20 minutes to get our one sandwich and cinnamon roll. The waitress expressed how unacceptable the wait time was and offered a refund and for me to go to the counter. When I went to the counter the man who works the bread only line basically didnt care that I waited an hour for a sandwich and also that many people behind me who ordered 4 or 5 sandwiches got their stuff before me. He then stated that because i got my food I was not worthy of compensation. I order food for my job here all the time and spend hundreds of dollars a time and we will never use this business again. The man behind the register said he was the owner and could not have cared less that I was upset that due to their lack of care I was stack at a sandwich shop for 2 hours. I will never step foot into this restaurant again. And I would suggest no one waste hours of your day for an okay sandwich. I have never experienced an owner caring so little that his customer who has spent hundreds upon hundreds at his restaurant and was one of the rudest people in have ever experienced. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ON MEDIOCRITY...

Extensive menu options from sandwiches to pastries. Highly recommend favorite of mine; turkey cob on rosemary olive oil bread and a butter toffee peanut butter cookie. If you might be lucky enough to show up on a day that non-menu items are available, then you might get rewarded with a real treat created on a "baker's whim!" My 2 favorite "non-menu" items are almond brioche toast and Italian wedding cookies; come to think of it, they might be the only ones not on the regular menu. Addendum December 2020: Reopened about 2 weeks ago after being closed since January. Looks almost the same inside minus the historic racing pics. Note: There is no eating allowed on the premises at the moment due to the pandemic. Not certain if all of the pre-closure menu items were on the menu, but gladly all of the ones my family loves still are. Picked up a couple Rosemary & Olive Oil loafs and some cookies... a couple of Dark Chocolate Chunk, and my personal favorite, Butter Toffee Peanut Butter. You will encounter a line to enter, how long depends on the time of the day you decide to go. The line encourages social distancing as per state recommend guidelines and face coverings are required to enter. You can order ahead online, but they don't offer curbside pickup, so you have to get out of your car and into the line. Overall, the Cohn group has done a fantastic job reopening this Point Loma icon. Thank you!

My favorite bakery and sandwich place in San Diego. Close proximity to the airport means that I try to stop by at the start and end of my trips! I've been visiting for many, many years. My favorite is the chocolate loaf and chocolate buns that is available on weekends. The loaf can be ordered whole or sliced. Half sandwiches are quite large, about the size of my hand! I really enjoy the home roasted tomatoes in the sandwiches. Sourdough is really good and chewy. All the baked goods and breads are very fresh! Nice outdoor area with umbrellas and tables to enjoy the sunshine, preferably with good food and company. Indoor seating is also available. Edit, Jan 2024: The cafe is now open 7 days under new management. Prices are a tad higher, but still fairly reasonable for a special brunch out. The chocolate boule is still available on weekends. I've tried both 3 piece bread samplers, with both sweet and savory toppings. I love fresh bread and these do not disappoint! Edit, Jan 2025: I've been ordering my sliced bread online for pickup when I arrive at the Airport. My coffee is usually made when I pickup, so it is always nice and hot. This is still my must-visit place for all my San Diego trips. Favorite breads lately: Gruyere & Chive, Hazelnut & Raisin, and Chocolate. I prefer the outdoor seating area to watch planes go by!

This is a great spot for breakfast/lunch. There is a large selection of bread, sandwiches, pastries, cookies, and hot drinks. You can select which bread you would like for your sandwich. My go to is the turkey cobb sandwich on multigrain bread - the turkey cobb is an amazing sandwich! It has turkey, bacon, lettuce, blue cheese, avocado and roasted tomatoes (I order without tomatoes). I have enjoyed just about every pastry there such as the cinnamon rolls (eat it there warm), scones, and orange sugar bun. I tried the mixed berry danish during my last visit and loved it. The pastry was flakey and filled with a creme/custard and topped with berries. I would also highly recommend trying a hot butterscotch latte. It's wonderfully indulgent and the butterscotch flavor is outstanding. The restaurant has bathrooms onsite and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor patio is dog friendly. There is plenty of parking since this is located in Liberty Station. Be prepared for a wait - it's always been slow to order and slow to get your order but it's absolutely worth the wait. There is usually a separate, shorter line if you are just ordering bread. This place is with a trip if you are looking for good bread, sandwiches, pastries, and a butterscotch latte!
