IHOP — Restaurant in San Diego

PANCAKES! PANCAKES! Love them pancakes. Had a bacon omelette which came with 3 pancakes that layed al the way to the edge of the tiny plate it came on. Why such a small plate for the pancakes? Im the type the drowns n soaks mine in syrup. That lil plate isn't going to catch the running down syrup. Back in the day they didn't have all these different options of pancakes, french toast, crapes, n waffles. The latest I think is Hawaiian roll recipe pancakes n french toast n as a bacon sandwhich? Crazy. So if ur not getting their creations like pancakes butterscotch, or chocolate, birthday cake, blueberry or strawberry, the flavored syrup options sitting on the table comes in handy. Im an old fashion syrup guy but once in a while i throw on blueberry or strawberry flavor syrup. Another thing, I say when u hire folk in a customer service based job, hire a server that has a personality n not a robot or a awkward type. Helps us consumers feel comfortable enough to want to stick around and maybe order more or an extra drink. But when all we want to do is run, even the great food isnt gonna keep a good table at its full potential. Jus sayin. Food was good. Our waitress not so much. Dont remember the name (older woman with short spikey hair), started off with us walking into the restaurant. She looked at my shirt and said, "Los polos huh?". I smiled and said yeah it's my favorite show (referring to breaking bad), she didn't smile or say anything, but shook her head and walked us to our table. When we sat down, she asked us what we wanted for drinks, I said I would like a Pepsi, she brings back a water. Not a big deal, but she then says, "someone was talking to me and I forgot what I was doing.". Again people are people. She then placed our order while writing it down and I was telling her how I was surprised IHOP in California had fewer items that Washington where we are from. I asked for a pancake combo with extra eggs. She said no problem. When I get the food, it was just pancakes. I was annoyed but I am not one for complaining at a restuarant where the food is prepared. I know better. After that she never stopped by but to drop the check off. I am never one to write a review. This is actually my first. Decided to swing in for a breakfast dinner rather than fight the expected dinner crowd at other local eateries and we scored! Quiet and slow. This was a first visit to this location and, I’m not sure when, the atmosphere was on point. If it was a remodel then they nailed it. If not we’ll they still nailed it. Very well kept. The ceiling tiles were nice and white not all grossed out with water stains and what not. No tagging in the bathroom, no cuts in the booths and no saggy booth seats.

Ted was a superior waiter. Even if it wasn’t slow you could tell he would’ve been just as attentive, polite and smiley. I can’t tell you how many restaurants fail because they cannot get the host greeting, seating and wait staff punctuality correct, timely and welcoming. This visit was off to a great start from the front doors. So, atmosphere and waiter were great. Food was great too. When you visit a chain you expect consistency. Pancakes alway terrific.

High marks all the way around. If you’re reading this ihop, take not of what was mentioned above and make suuuuuuuure its consistent and you’ll succeed. I do know for a fact that other locations are NOT this well presented. Definitely...
