I recently had the pleasure of indulging in a slice of the chocolate caramel macadamia nut with hazel cream cake, and I must say, it was an absolute delight! From the very first bite to the last, this cake was a mouthwatering experience that left me craving for more. First and foremost, the taste was exceptional. The combination of rich chocolate, luscious caramel, and the delightful crunch of macadamia nuts created a symphony of flavors that danced on my taste buds. The hazel cream added a heavenly touch, enhancing the overall experience and taking it to a whole new level of deliciousness. One aspect that truly stood out was the cake's texture. It was incredibly moist, which is often a key factor in determining the quality of a cake. The moistness of each bite was simply divine, making it a joy to savor. Additionally, the cake had the perfect balance of sweetness; it wasn't overpowering but just right, allowing the flavors to shine through without overwhelming the palate. Not only was the taste and texture exceptional, but this cake also became the highlight of my friend's birthday celebration. The moment it was served, everyone's eyes widened with anticipation, and the first bite was met with expressions of pure bliss. It truly made the occasion more memorable and joyous. In conclusion, the chocolate caramel macadamia nut with hazel cream cake exceeded all my expectations. Its extraordinary flavor, moistness, and ideal level of sweetness left me thoroughly impressed. If given the chance, I would order this cake a thousand times over. It's a true masterpiece that deserves to be celebrated and savored by all cake enthusiasts.

I've been purchasing my cakes from Kona for over 10 years, back when they met you in a parking lot to pick up your order. They've come a long way and now have a store front. I'm very happy they've had a successful business! Their cakes are wonderful. If you're looking for something tropical and a taste of paradise, you have found the right bakery. They have flavors from guava, to haupia, pineapple, to macadamia nut. My personal favorite is the chocolate caramel mac nut with hazelnut cream. It's pure heaven. Since I've been coming for years, I have obviously paid attention to how they have evolved over the years and also their increase in price. When I first purchased in 2012 I paid $46 for a an 8 inch cake. In 2020, $67.00 for the same 8 inch, and in 2022, $74 for the same 8 inch cake. I understand inflation, but this is a little steep for an 8 inch cake. You can get something comparable at other fine bakeries like Hans and Harry's for half the price. For special occasions I return to Kona and I'm willing to pay the price. The last cake I purchased was the same familiar taste, but unfortunately a little too much whipped cream. So much whipped cream that when I went to slice the cake it sort of shifted. The filling with the caramel and mac nut was almost so thin I could barely taste it. I'm hoping it was a fluke and that they're not one of these businesses that is increasing their prices but starts skimping on the fine ingredients to cut costs. This is not a complaint but more constructive criticism. I will be a lifelong customer, but will definitely continue to consider the price:quality factor.

In the past year, Kona Kakes Tropical Cake Bakery has become one of my favorite bakeries in San Diego, CA. My husband and I ordered a mango mousse cake and a couple of miniature strawberry guava cakes for our civil wedding on 09/28/2022 after a word-of-mouth recommendation from a family member. After tasting the cakes, we fell in love with their flavors and knew we had to contract Kona Kakes again to make our 3-tier cake for our church wedding on 09/30/2023. Janice was amazing to work with. She is genuinely a nice person, always happy to see us throughout the year, and very passionate about the cakes she makes. For the church wedding, she made a 3-tier cake, each layer with our top 3 flavors: strawberry guava, mango mousse, and chocolate macadamia. We specifically asked her to keep the cake's design with the traditional frosting piping seen in their Hawaiian cakes and decorate it with palm leaves and plumerias to match our reception's decorations at the San Diego Natural History Museum. The 3-tier cake tasted and looked amazing, with many of our guests approaching us to inquire if we bought our cake, as they wanted to order some for their future events. My husband and I look forward to ordering more cakes from Janice and Kona Kakes in the future, such as for our wedding anniversary next year ;-)

This review is strictly for the cake. A co-worker of mine had a baby over a year ago and to celebrate her husband brought in a Caramel Macadamia Nut cake. This cake was one of the most delicious cakes I have ever tried. My boss and I instantly started googling Kona Kakes so we could learn more. I bookmarked the business and thought about it from time to time but never visited until recently.

I'll be honest, there is no signage to identify this shop so I drove by it once before seeing the small sign on the ground. Once I parked I walked inside and kept hoping to see the small cakes for sale. I went straight to the cooler and started looking. I was instantly sad when I saw there were no more of the caramel macadamia nut cakes in the cooler.

A very nice lady came to ask if I needed any help and I told her what I was looking for. I told her I had been thinking about this cake for over a year and very badly wanted a piece to take home. She told me she had sold the last one a few minutes before but was going to the back to make sure there were none in the back. To my surprise she came back and said there were more in another refrigerator. I just about jumped for joy I was so excited. I ended up ordering two of the caramel macadamia nut, one chocolate caramel macadamia nut, and one strawberry guava.

Once I got home I could not wait to eat my cake. I grabbed a fork and dug into the caramel macadamia nut cake. My husband had the same and I gave my son the guava strawberry. From the first bite I was in love. This cake lived up to my memory that I had been thinking about for over a year. The cake was flavorful and light, the caramel covering the cake was perfect, the frosting was light, creamy and delicious, the nuts on top were perfectly crunchy. This really is a perfect cake. When I noticed I was about half way done with mine I asked my husband how he liked it. He said he loved it and his was already gone. It is truly an amazing cake!

My son liked the strawberry guava cake but the frosting was his favorite part. I was selfish and at the chocolate caramel macadamia myself and saved none for anyone else. I left it in the refrigerator for a week and it was still excellent. I will definitely be back for more cake and at 1 for $6 or 2 for $10 it is a good deal. I would gladly take this cake over Extraordinary...
