I went there for the first time last night to enjoy a comforting Italian dinner. I ordered eggplant parmesan and a side green salad with blush vinaigrette dressing. The eggplant parmesan was unusually made and not amongst my favorites. I'd call it interesting. I wouldn't necessarily order it again, but I might. The two large eggplant slices were cut thick and breaded then it appears they were lightly fried or possibly deep fried. They were covered in sauteéd mushrooms which I absolutely loved. However, I think the eggplant slices were over-fried. I'm on the fence about this dish. The side salad was nice consisting of Spring mix lettuces, grape tomatoes, and something else, I can't recall. The blush vinaigrette salad dressing was crazy good! I'm giving the eggplant parmesan a generous 3 out of 5. Tonight I went back to try their pizza which I've heard is very good. I ordered a medium veggie. Got it home and ate most of it, it was very good! There were chunks of zucchini squash on it! I love fresh vegetables! 5 out of 5 on the pizza, making my score for Leucadia Pizza's food 4 stars out of 5. Their service is a 5. Excellent and friendly customer service from all employees I came into contact with last night and tonight. The atmosphere is casual with a hometown vibe. Gotta give it a 4 because I reserve my 5's for fancy restaurants (that deserve it). Definitely will return...
Read moreMediocre food with bad management. We heard of Leucadia Pizza and were happy to try them at the La Jolla location. We tried their pizza and four of their pasta dishes. Pizza was mediocre at best and the pasta dishes ranged from ok to not very good. Altogether very disappointing on the food side. On top of that, we had a minor issue with our order. The manager stepped in to “help” and handled the issue very poorly and in bad taste. We ended up paying almost $20 for a side of plain penne pasta that we didn’t even order. The manager eventually offered to take it off our check but she made such a fuss over not charging us for this food that probably cost them about $2 (even if we ignore the fact that we didn’t order it in the first place) that I declined the “kindness” and paid the full check, knowing this is the last check I would ever pay there. There is plenty of good pizza and pasta out there....
Read moreWhat a tragedy. The food at this place has nothing in common with Italian cuisine… we tried several things on the menu just to give them a chance. Waste of money… first they brought out some bread that looked like white bread toasted and then cut in four pieces. The lasagna was a pile of obviously frozen and microwaved cheese with some Ragu sauce around it! The calamari was NOT calamari… We tried a couple of bottles of wine just to find out later from the waitress that “They are not able to store the red wine properly, and that is probably why they taste like vinegar…“ The pizza tasted like Papa John’s. The desserts were frozen. I still tipped 25% because I felt sorry for the server; she seemed clueless about food and wine… Unfair to call this place an Italian eatery… last time I take a recommendation from the...
