This was my very first time at any Little Sakana location and well I think I will wait for the AYCE sashimi options the next time I go. WHY?! Well; hold on. The VIP ROLL with the albacore on top and the Lemon Roll with the salmon on top were delicious, and well seasoned! All the apps: agedashi tofu, shrimp tempura, vegetable tempura, udon, baked mussels, side salad with the ginger dressing, and cucumber salad went well with the rolls. But… when I tasted the nigiri… the FISH WAS MELT IN YOUR MOUTH, fresh and delicious! But the rice that came with the nigiri?! It tasted DISGUSTING. It made the fish taste disgusting. It didn’t taste like marvelous SUSHI RICE with salt, mirin, rice vinegar, something, anything to make it good sushi rice. Gahhh I still remember spitting the rice our like WTH was that? Well, that’s too bad because I would have ordered more. Nevertheless, I’d stick with the fresh rolls and not the baked ones - I don’t think they’ve perfected those just yet since their opening was only months ago. The carpaccio is not available for lunch - only dinner time so that was a bummer but the EX-BOYFRIEND comes with no rice and is a great option rather than the nigiri options. Please, please improve the nigiri rice :( I went in today with my family around 12:30pm (6-7-22 Rey was our friendly server) that nigiri rice definitely was made in a hurry and had no seasoning and was super MUSHY… rancid-like YUCK! Other than that, I’ll dine a la carte until more sashimi options come up! Or I heard the Mira Mesa one does more...
Read moreWe went during lunch time on a Monday and it was not busy. We were able to get a table quickly. However, we did have to wait a bit before we got our orders taken and serve our foods. I can't imagine how it would be during a busy time if we had to wait when it wasn't busy. Overall, our food was good and worth our money. When calculating what we ordered through the All You Can eat menu vs the regular menu, we saved a little more than $100, which is not bad at all. As for the rice, it wasn't that good as the other comments mentioned, but it wasn't an issue for me. I didn't really eat the rice to save space and to eat other items. We ordered the Edamame Spicy Garlic, Salmon Kama, and Salmon Skin and Shishito Pepper for appetizers. They were all delicious! For Nigiri, we ordered Garlic Tuna Steak, Sweet Soy Salmon, Umami Oil Salmon, Ex-Boyfriend, and Garlic Ponzu Salmon. My favorite from those was either the Garlic Ponzu Salmon or Sweet Soy Salmon - I couldn't tell. I wouldn't order the Umami Oil Salmon. It wasn't to my liking; it tasted like oil, but not yummy oil. I thought I would like Ex-Boyfriend because it used crab meat instead of rice, but it was too much. Overall, I would go again for the buffet to try the other things...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing AYCE sushi for a price of 38.99! The fish was amazingly fresh and the portions were perfect for trying every single piece of nigiri and roll. I went here with my fiancée and we ate what would be the equivalent of 300$+ of sushi at Kura Sushi, for only 80$ish. The quality is definitely higher than Kura as well which is great for how local this is!
The biggest advice I'd give is to make sure you are ordering atleast a roll or 5-6 nigiri at a time. There was a significant wait inbetween orders which was due to the poor sushi chefs being overloaded with orders. The table next to us ordered 10 rolls and 20 nigiri at the same time, and I can say wow I hope those chefs are being paid well!
But! The quality never dipped despite a huge amount of orders, and our server always paid attention to ask if there was any refills we need or more orders to be made.
Overall, this is my go to for my sushi cravings from now on!
P.S. If you are planning to go to Little Sakana before opening, make sure to SCAN THE QR CODE AT THE ENTRANCE. This way you can be added to the wait list asap. The restaurant filled up pretty quick at opening but died down as...
