Mama's Bakery & Deli — Restaurant in San Diego

We came in on a Wednesday about 3PM, one single order and one 3 person takeout ahead of us, two women cooking. We order three falafel sandwiches, one without pickle.

Fifteen minutes later, our three falafel sandwiches come out, two without pickle, two cold, one barely warm....at this point we are really hungry and eat the cold sandwiches....too hungry to go ask for replacements...too hungry to beg for what we paid for (and it ain't cheap)...too hungry to yell at the smiling ladies.

So now the leaden falafel sits in my belly like a cold, wet dog biscuit....I feel shame at eating sub-standard food, embarrassment at paying for crap, resentment for being ripped off for what is a basic street food in much of the world. This product can and is routinely prepared by one person with minimal setup in a small cart or stand, served hot with fresh condiments.

Now Mama's serves this crap, uncaring, knowing that the people who come here are so used to sub-standard food that they do not have to care, do not have to produce a quality product they serve with pride....they are just slopping the hogs...

We would have been better off at McDonalds just...

parked on the st a block away. 15min spot right in front. some st parking. dining is outdoor with fans and shade. order inside and wait for food outside.

I got a Chicken shawarma wrap ($10) that tasted like boiled drychicken with tomatoes lettuce and pickles. I asked the lady if this was my correct order. She took it back and brought another one. it was much better, chicken wasn't tough and it was mixed with tahini and more flavorful and saucy. The wrap bread is fresh and tasty. I could come back for the 2nd tahini filled wrap. or just order something else

The falafel plate comes with bread, salad, and hummus in a to-go box. it was all pretty good and came out to $15.

I appreciate the friendly service and that they cared enough to fix my first wrap. Cold water provided outside is self service . utensils and salt also outside self service. but gotta ask for hot sauce.

One small bathroom...

Their stuffed grape leaves was horrible the rice stuffing on the inside was soured and sticky it was terrible, so I ordered couple of other things such as a side of rice and a meat wrapped thinking that it cannot get any worsening than my stuffed grape leaves. The rice was very dry and wrapped meat was old and dry not very well seasoning and on top of that I think the owner over charged me for my second order, the menu listed the wrapped was $10.49 and the rice was $2.49 and when I paid it with my credit card for the second time it showed $16.99 ??? The math doesn’t add up correctly… overall lunch for my wife and I, we spent the total of around $80.00 dollars… before today, I have had high hopes for a great dining experience at Mama’s restaurant but it was a bad experience and very disappointed with the food quality. The girl at the front counter was friendly and attentive!!! I will not be visiting Mama’s...
