Massachusetts Mike's Pizzeria — Restaurant in San Diego

This place is the best! My partner and I first decided to try this place solely due to the name, as we are Massachusetts natives, so we HAD to check it out and see if the pizza resembled pizza in Boston. Let me tell you, it does!

Once upon a time, i had to suffer without pizza until i found this place. I used to love pizza, but since moving out here from MA around 7 years ago, I noticed that the pizza here was so different from what I grew up eating. It was just....off. I hated it, and so I didn't eat pizza anymore. I couldn't stomach it without getting nauseous. I can't say what it is about West Coast pizza that bothers me so much, but I hate it so much.

I went a WHOLE FIVE YEARS without a single damn slice of pizza because i had just given up all hope that I'd find what I was looking for. It was a depressing five years, obviously. One day, I was scrolling on postmates, trying to find somewhere that my picky eating self would eat and... what's this....? .... Massachusetts mikes? Oh. I wonder.....

We ordered it, and they are the ONLY pizza I can eat on the West Coast.

I can't even begin to describe the gratitude and relief I felt finding this spot. The location is quite small in size, with a couple of tables and benches, but I've seen at least a dozen people pr more eating in there with plenty of room when I've gone to pick up my pizzas. Plus, it's on a street that has a strip of bars, shops, food places, clubs, etc. It's a really fun area of san diego. The guys that work here are super nice, as well, so yeah.

OMG, I finally found my pizza spot. I grew up in NH, lived in Mass., NJ worked in NYC and DC. I have had exceptional pizza and crave great pizza. I have been tracking suggestions from influencers on Tic Tok and IG Reels, watching pizza reviews, etc. My search is over. Mass Mike's is EXCEPTIONAL pizza. The crust has a great crunch and structure, the under carriage is firm, slice doesn't flop, holds straight when you pick it up. It somehow feels like a thicker crust but is light and airy and eats like a thinner crust. It's perfect. It doesn't over power the pizza with too much crust. The sauce has the perfect balance of sweetness and tomato twang. The toppings are cut perfectly to be hearty and rustic without going too far to weigh down the slice or break the structural integrity of the crust. Just perfect. The cheese has great string and freshness. We got the large supreme pizza and next day asking ourselves when we can go back. Mike was behind the counter with his crew. They were having a great time with each other. They were having fun and it carried across the counter. All the locals and regulars filled the place and they feed off the fun vibe and were having fun too. It was dinner and a comedy show. We had so much fun. PHENOMENAL pizza, great service, fun staff and patrons. I will go back and dine in again, but I will not buy a pizza anywhere else in SD. Mass Mike's became my go to...

Man oh man! If you are looking for a pizza joint to compete with Bronx Pizza and Hillcrest brewing pizza you have found it! The wife and I stopped here on our way home by far the best choice we did since moving to Hillcrest. First off the staff was amazing Jose was really great on welcoming you once you walk in. The wife and I looked at their menu before hand and knew what we wanted but he convinced to get some garlic knots. By far the best Garlic knots we had and we are a serious pizza couple. They make everything by hand FRESH the dough for the pizza and even the garlic knots. We ended up getting a 18 inch half Whitestone/half PBJ(Pepperoni, Bacon and Jalapeño) with a side of garlic knots. My wife use to work for this industry and she is very particular with her pizza and knots. By her judgement and mine (just simply someone that loves pizza) by far the best. Dough is made fresh for al ingredients involved. Pizza was cooked to perfection and the knots. You can truly taste the LOVE in the food. They have beer on tap, bar sitting area with tvs and plenty of seating inside. What made it even better seeing the owner himself working cooking the pizzas along side his wife fiancé making the fresh dough and that you don’t see often.
