Ototo Sushi Co. — Restaurant in San Diego

I rarely write negative reviews but Abraham although may not have intentionally provided poor service at the front did...and then I believe he chose to lie. I'll just explain my experience. I walked in and there were two people ahead of me. He proceeded to seat people randomly...I alerted him that this couple was ahead of me and then he said ok. Your table will be next we are just going to clean it. Many groups came and he sat them. As he sat five parties ahead of me...I began getting frustrated. After waiting over fifteen minutes, I would like to point out that I was in the front not waiting or sitting in the back. I finally was left with my party of3 alone still waiting to be seated. I went to him and said you do realize you seated everyone ahead of us and that we were here before all of them and have been waiting over fifteen minutes. No apology was given just..oh well your table is ready now. He wasn't rude just unapologetic and slightly dismissive. He said follow me and I said no I would just like to speak to a manager. He said..oh sure..ok good.well what's it regarding...I said the unacceptable wait and seating confusion. I actually just wanted to notify the manager that perhaps a sign up sheet should be provided since I understand being in the service industry myself albeit dental....I can understand someone as young as him not being super organized. This is when I went from frustrated to perturbed..."Abraham" said I'M THE MANAGER this just after he was going to go get him for me. I felt this was most likely not accurate due to his age and circumstances prior as well as his unorganization. That's when I decided to write the review in the hopes that a real MANAGER or at least someone above Abraham shortish young man with dark curly hair could get some much needed training. This was Sunday...

Sign says “Wait to be seated” so…..we waited….and waited……and waited. Server came by and told us to grab a seat wherever we want. No menus offered. If the place was busy I could understand but it was 4:30 and mostly empty. The same server forgot to place part of the order for the table next to us. He brought them their bill but they were expecting another roll. He apologized and offered to re-submit the order but they declined. They opted to just pay and leave. This should have been a warning. The same server did the same exact thing to us. We ordered 3 rolls. Two showed up relatively quick but not the third. The server never once returned to check on us or refill drinks. We had to flag down another employee to assist us. The original guy eventually came back to ask us what we needed. He reviewed his device and confirmed that we had ordered the third roll but had not received it. He resubmitted the order but never retuned, never refilled a glass. We did recieve the last roll eventually…..from someone else. I will say the food was great! It was the service that sucked. We never received a bill at the table. We had to stand in line again at the front to pay. The same server ask us if we wanted to place a to-go order as if we had just walked in. The whole experience was frustrating. I recently visited Ototo Sushi Co. at Liberty Station with my Daughter, and our experience was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the staff, who provided excellent service throughout our meal.

We started with the edamame, which was perfectly seasoned and a great way to begin our dining experience. The yellowtail sashimi was incredibly fresh, melt-in-your-mouth, and beautifully presented. The highlight of our meal was the Mr. Miyagi roll - a delightful combination of crispy shrimp tempura, creamy avocado, and spicy tuna, topped with eel sauce and spicy mayo, creating a perfect balance of flavors and textures.

The ambiance of the restaurant was inviting, and the attention to detail in both the food and the service made our visit truly special. We also enjoyed a cup of hot green tea, which paired wonderfully with our sushi.

To top off our evening, we headed to Con Pane for their famous cinnamon roll, which was the perfect sweet ending to our night out.

Overall, Ototo Sushi Co. exceeded our expectations with their outstanding food, excellent service, and welcoming atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an exceptional sushi experience...
