Everything at the Comfort Inn was great. There was a problem with the TV which was fixed immediately and cheerfully. Chuck, who checked us in, explained the parking plan for our 'Snooze and Cruise' package. Difficulties began with the taxi portion of the package. I asked Chuck to reserve us a cab for 1pm the following day; he said he would. About 11:30pm that night (Fri 01/05) I received a call on the room phone from someone named Anika (?) asking about our cab reservation. She said there had been some confusion and she wanted to confirm. I repeated that we wanted a cab at 1pm on 01/06. Came 01/06 and our cab hadn't arrived about 1:10. I checked with the front desk person, who said our reservation was for 1:30! We were due to board the ship at 1:40pm, so this was cutting it tight. I appealed to the desk clerk, who made a call and got a cab there about 1:20. First 'cab problem.' Chuck, who checked us in, explained that we needed to make our own cab reservation for the return ride to Comfort Inn. No problem, I thought. On the 13th I phoned the cab company and got a very clunky automated system. I believed I made a reservation for 8:30am, but having received no confirmation text or message I again phoned Comfort Inn and asked the desk clerk if she could phone the cab company, talk to a person, and confirm the order. She did, and called me back. The confusion began when we disembarked for the first time at San Diego terminal. There was a long cab line, but we had no way of knowing which cab was ours. I had left a 'special comment' on the computerized system to look for a man in a bright blue hoodie. As we attempted to determine which cab in the line might be ours, one of the drivers indicated that 'booked cab' passengers should be just outside the gates at the cab/ Uber/Lyft pickup area. I went to look for 'our cab,' by now having gotten a text indicating the cab #. Once I got to the area, I received another text saying my cab had been cancelled! My partner and I moved ourselves and our luggage to the booked cab, Uber/Lyft pickup area. I re-booked using the computerized system, and got another text with a cab number. We both looked at cabs for another 15 or 20 minutes, hoping to see and flag down 'our' cab. No luck. We finally gave up on this seemingly futile task and flagged a cab to return us to the Comfort Inn at our own expense. The driver, who claimed he used to work for Yellow Cab, said that many drivers wouldn't show up for booked calls at all. I have no way of verifying his claim, but I can verify that we spent close to a fruitless hour attempting to get a cab and failing. I would very much appreciate a room credit for $19. for the unused cab voucher. I would appreciate more money, of course, to compensate for what turned out to be an upsetting and costly experience. However, I would be satisfied to learn that the Comfort Inn, based on my experience, would advise voucher return passengers better. This could be accomplished by a 1/3 letter size sheet, about the same size as the vouchers, giving guests the information about where to wait for 'their' cab just outside the terminal entrance (a tiny map would help here) and that they should expect a text from their driver with a cab number on it to come to the cab/Uber/Lyft passenger pickup area. This unfortunate cab experience, besides costing us an hour of time we could have spent driving to return home to Lake Havasu City, created an unhappy ending to an otherwise pleasant stay...
Read moreWife and I decided to take advantage of some free tickets we had and visit San Diego for a few days. We arrive at this Comfort Inn and look at the age of the property and surroundings and we think "eh...This might not have been such a good idea." It is located at a busy and noisy intersection on Rosecrans and right across from a Winchell's donuts (not a bad thing) and a 24hr liquor store and tattoo parlor. So upon appearances it was a bit sketchy. However, the place was well appointed from the check in office to the room itself, it was a really pleasant surprise. The room is small, we opted for the king bed, but pretty nice. Floors are laminate wood, and the furniture all upgraded. It's a very nice impression. The bathroom is completely remodeled from top to bottom and the shower was roomy and comfortable. The room was very clean all around. It would've been nice to have another comfy chair in the room as I think there is enough room for one but the only seating in the room is a rolling desk chair. There are places and things that show their age (cracks in walls, uneven painting, sloppy work in some places), small parking area (but free!). We stayed in an upstairs room large enough for two but that's it. The bathroom is quite small, but the room is not a bad size for two. I wouldn't say a family would be comfy however. The room was located close to the intersection itself and was quite loud especially late afternoon and evening (and starting around 7am) but the windows are well insulated and traffic noise was decently mitigated. The bathroom lacks ventilation as there is a single small window and no fan. The bed was comfy for my wife but felt a bit lumpy and firm for me. Plenty of pillows as well. Breakfast is typical of Comfort Inns with waffle bar, cereal, juice, yogurt, assorted pastries and bread, poached eggs and sausage! The breakfast room is small and can accommodate maybe 8 at a time. Sometimes they ran out of items like milk or syrup but they did the best to keep things stocked. It was a nice bonus.
As far as location, it really turned out to be fantastic. Lots of good restaurants all around within easy walking distance (Miguel's Cocina is right up Scott St and is fabulous...Especially if you like white cheese dip with your chips! And we went to Pizza Nova on the harbor which has great pizza and a decent happy hour menu) and the harbor area is safe and nice to walk around. It's easy to get to Sea World and to Point Loma as well as to downtown San Diego. There is a Best Western and Holiday Inn just up the street as well, but for the price you really can't beat this Comfort Inn. We would come back again in...
Read moreBooked an hour before I checked in on Priceline for just under $73 with tax (had a promo code for 12% off). I just wanted a clean place for 1 night to sleep to recover from an operation so wanted a place that was within 25 minutes due to traffic. My expectations were low.||||To my surprise, the place overall was great. I've stayed in 3 motels including this one during Covid, and I have to say they get an A++++ on how they are handling the pandemic. They give you a mini hand sanitizer at check in, and i the room everything is prewrapped (the remote, towels, soap/shampoo etc). They really went above and beyond compared to the other motels. I saw a review mentioned the grab and go breakfast. At least they are doing it. Two motels I stayed at still list having a continental breakfast however they aren't doing jack ** due to Covid (which is understandable since the travel industry is taking a huge loss so I get it). The Comfort Inn at least is giving you a little something so be grateful or give to a bum (lots of them here in California!).||||Front desk employee was sweet too. Using us Priceline folks get the worst rooms due to prepaying. She actually asked me what kind of a room I wanted (upstairs, downstairs, 1 bed, 2 bed etc). Due to it being near a busy street, I just said any quiet room, and that's exactly where I'm at right now.||||Walked around a bit for exercise and they have a cute little pool, and a patio on the 2nd floor that overlooks the boat dock.||||Wifi is strong, and the shower pressure was fine.||||Only reason 4 stars and not 5 is because the parking lot is really small and cramped. I have to leave very early in the AM when it will be dark out so I hope I have no difficulty getting out. Also when I went to the bathroom I found a couple hairs (hairs get to me...granted they didn't look like pubes).||||Would stay at again. Other motels walking distance including Ramada (stayed at the PL Ramada and had problems), Vagabond, and a couple smaller nonchain ones, but I liked the Comfort Inn. You got Humphrey's too of course but $$$. Lots of places to eat walking distance for all budgets as well...
