I’m writing this review about our recent visit (on June 20, 2025) to Princess Pub & Grille in Little Italy — located at 1665 India Street in San Diego, correctly identified as Princess Pub & Grille tripadvisor.com +6 sandiegorestaurants.com +6 littleitalysd.com +6 .
We chose the patio seating on a lovely evening—other diners also had dogs, and ours got warm feedback. Our playful pup barely barked, and plenty of guests complimented her. Yet, the manager singled us out and demanded we leave if our dog "kept barking." No one else received the same treatment.
To make matters worse, he closed our check abruptly without asking permission or confirming with us. Later, when my fiancé and I went inside to pay for a beer, the manager slammed shut the patio window divider mid-conversation. We asked twice, "Is everything okay? Why are you closing this?", and he ignored us before storming away. It felt hostile and abrupt—especially considering we were calm, quiet, and polite.
This treatment felt discriminatory—our only connection was being seated with our Mexican family—and clearly unjustified. We left feeling harassed and unfairly targeted.
On the bright side, our waitress was wonderful: attentive, friendly, efficient, and genuinely apologetic about the uncomfortable interaction. She was the highlight of our night and deserves real credit.
Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2 out of 5)
Pros:
Excellent service from our waitress, who handled herself professionally and kindly. Cons:
Manager’s behavior was rude, abrupt, and felt discriminatory. Unjustified handling of our check and closing of the patio window without explanation. Left the impression we were being unfairly singled out. We hope Princess Pub’s management team addresses this serious issue. The pub itself has charm and a good atmosphere, but our evening was ruined by how we were treated. If the manager’s conduct improves, this could be a much better place to enjoy a drink—ideally with more respectful leadership and consistent,...
Read moreI called ahead and asked the girl who answered the phone if they did a full breakfast, she just answered yes! I asked are you open now, again she just said yes! Not really welcoming at all but we decided to give it a go anyway as we were hungry. We arrived on a Saturday morning around 10.30 am, the restaurant was empty with just a few people sitting at the bar, nobody said hello or welcomed us in or showed us to a table so the two of us sat at a table in the back as there was a big screen showing some English football, the owner or bartender came over and asked us to move as it was a table for six people not for two (the place was like empty) we moved to another table and asked if this one was ok and he sarcastically replied yes that for two or four people. I didn't have my glasses with me and the menu was in really a tiny font so I asked what was the full breakfast made up off, he replied "read what it says on the menu"!, we were shocked at his rudeness. My wife explained he said he hasn't got his glasses and just asked, to which he said "I didn't hear him did I" Well by this time the rudeness and unwelcome attitude was enough to make us walk out. And we are glad we did because we found a great place called the Shakespeare pub which did an excellent full English breakfast and the staff were totally different and...
Read moreOh my, we had not had such a bad restaurant experience in a really long time. We sat outside at the Princess Pub and Grille about 5pm. We asked if we need to order inside or from the server. Kind of a normal question for a “Pub”. The response from the server was to literally throw the menu he had in his hand onto the table from a few feet away and loudly tell us in a rude voice “this is a restaurant and you will order from the server”. We were all so shocked we got up and left to one of our goto Little Italy restaurants next door (Davante Enoteca). While sitting next door we proceeded to watch this server run out at least two other parties. Then he pulled out the chair locks and put the on the tables. Total not understandable as the Argentina vs Ecuador soccer match was bringing in people and it was only like 6pm. Prime dinner time. Every other place in Little Italy had their patios full. This server needs to find happiness with a new job, with or without support from this restaurant. If not, this restaurant will lose a lot of business to the many other restaurants...
