Do not stay at this hotel IF:||If you like a cool room with air conditioning, do not stay at this hotel. When we ch cked into our room, the unscreened window was left open, making it super muggy with bugs inside the room. The staff said we could turn it down and it would eventually cool but you cannot set it below 68° as it is controlled by the front desk staff. ||If you like a room with space, do not stay at this hotel. Their "standard room " is Sooooo tiny. There is NOT enough room for more than one person. There is a sink in the middle of the room not in the bathroom next to the front door where there is a tiny area with 3 hangers, no closet or any space to lay out your baggage. This room is far to small to even be consider d a "standard" hotel room. ||If you like a mirror to get ready and or see what you look like before you leave do not stay in this room. The only mirror that is inside this room is a tiny mirror in the half bath. No floor-length mirror or any mirror with good lighting to get ready. ||If you like to have access to an iron in your room do not stay at this hotel. When you call the front desk to ask for an iron they will simply tell you to come down and get it yourself. ||If you want to sleep in on a Saturday morning do not stay in this room. The farmers market which is great starts early on a Saturday morning but the traffic control is loud they are blowing their whistles at 7:00 a.m. and yelling loudly at the pedestrians to stay on the crosswalk. ||If you like a hotel that has hospitality and strong customer service do not stay at this hotel. All they could do is make excuses as to what they could and or could not do because it was corporate policy, rather than trying to make a wrong right. We immediately checked out of this hotel after being forced to stay here one night and checked in to a new hotel down as the experience here was...
Read moreLa Pensione is a 3-star hotel that exceeds expectations. The hotel is like a modern travelers hotel in Europe. The layout is essentially a 4-floor square with a central courtyard. A few rooms face inwards, but most face out to different views of San Diego. The two best corner rooms have a full view of Little Italy, but some face the harbor or the airport. The cheapest rooms are small, but highly functional. Our room had a refrigerator, which we have not seen in some more expensive hotels in San Diego. We liked the marble type of tile in the bathroom, the windows that could be opened, and the comfortable bed.
They entire hotel was clean.
The courtyard was charming, with a fountain and tables with small fire pits in the middle. It was a relaxing place to snack on the free danish and coffee for breakfast from the cafe. There were also stylish modern chairs in the hallways on each floor. Some were outside, which were like sitting on balcony, which the rooms did not have.
A travel company posted on Google Maps a picture of rooftop pool, which does not exist. This actually was a picture from another hotel in San Diego that is more expensive. La Pensione does not have a pool. It does have a limited parking garage that has a reasonable per night fee for guests. It does not have any other fees, like a resort fee.
It is in the middle of Little Italy with great restaurants and bars and a few Italian groceries, so you have more selection of food places to walk than some resorts in the metro area. Also, the neighborhood feels safe, so my wife was happy to go out for a wslk by herself in the morning while locals were walking their dogs.
Over-all, La Pensione is a great place to stay if you are looking for an affordable hotel in San Diego and do not need a pool, private balcony, a spacious room with a lounge chair, or...
Read moreThis Hotels offers a good location with some good price. The reason the low rating is dut the fact that they are not the most transparent when it comes to billing and charges.
I been trying to dispute a charge and spending numerous hours from the time I checked out and after a week still battling this situation.
The Hotel claims to have parking, when you check in they just give you a parking card for the underground garage the problem after the check out the charge you $30 dollars per day which was never agreed upon. I spoke with the front desk and they just didn't removed after check out, and with our busy schedules you will not argue for 2 hrs on why this was basically a highway robbery.
I called several times to say at least 10 times they assured me will be reimbursed until now they just hang up the phone and dont even pick up my calls.
This proofs that their ethics and their way to conduct business is not the most appropriate. I was under official travel and bills need to get paid and explanations needed to be made not only spend additional time explaining.
The front desk is as inept as it could be, the manager never available to take a call but I am glad that they just charged without my consent only $30 dollars per day and not $100.
Please be mindful on setting the expectations on writing and if you are scam the way I was reported to your credit card and to better business bureau.
As I explained to them is not just unethical but they are commiting a fraud by charging the customer without an approval or agreement. They never answer the calls and just a very unprofessional manner the way this Hotel is run.
To the Hotel Management,
Horrible service and I hope you enjoy the money that without my consent written or verbal took from me...
