Roma Norte Event Space — Restaurant in San Diego

TLDR: Don’t listen to the reviews of people over exaggerating how “great” this place is. Cocktails are mediocre and service is bad. Unfortunately, the food was good (but very overpriced). I would return in a few months in the hope this place has improved, but wouldn’t recommend how it is now. Use your money to go to the million other better places in SD.

Either I visited a completely different spot than what the reviews did or everyone is exaggerating and lying for the restaurant for paid reviews. For the positive, the food is good here. Our group got the torta, carne crudo, the scallop tostada and the tuna tostada and they all tasted great (carne crudo was okay and chips were stale). However, it is a very small amount of food for what you get - the tostadas are ~$17 for the size of a street taco. I hope they keep the torta on the menu. The positives end there. There are a ton of cocktails on the menu, but six out of the seven cocktails our group tried fell completely short. I think it would be better for them to pair down to a concise but good quality list instead of hiding behind the one million mediocre cocktails that were completely one note and disappointing. Secondly, service was poor. Our water sat empty forever and took a very long time to close out our tab. Our waiter was also passive aggressive when we asked for a correction on our bill which completely soured an already disappointing experience. The table next to us had also agreed with our comments on poor service from the waiter when talking amongst ourselves. It has the potential to be good but isn’t there yet. Save yourselves the money and go to an actual good cocktail bar, unlike this place disguising themselves as “high concept” while the cocktails tasted boring and uninspired...

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Roma Norte, and I can’t say enough about how impressive this spot is. The cocktails here are nothing short of exceptional—creative, perfectly balanced, and made with an obvious passion for the craft. Their selection of spirits is a standout, offering a range that’s both extensive and thoughtfully curated, making it a paradise for anyone who appreciates a good drink.

The bartenders truly elevate the experience, and I have to give a special shoutout to Abraham and Edwin. Abraham’s skill behind the bar is matched only by his warm, welcoming vibe, while Edwin’s expertise on mezcal is downright encyclopedic. He guided me through their impressive mezcal offerings with such enthusiasm and knowledge that I left with a whole new appreciation for it. These guys don’t just mix drinks; they create moments.

The food is also a win—solid, flavorful, and a great complement to the drinks. It’s conveniently located right next to Puestos by Seaport Village, which adds to the appeal if you’re in the mood to explore more of the area. The atmosphere and decor tie it all together beautifully. The space feels vibrant yet cozy, with a stylish edge that makes you want to settle in after your nightcap.

Roma Norte in San Diego is an absolute gem, offering some of the most exquisitely crafted cocktails I’ve ever experienced. Every drink on their menu is executed with such precision and attention to detail that it’s hard to pick a favorite. The "Fit Old Fashioned" is truly in a league of its own—a masterful blend of flavors that takes this classic cocktail to another level. If you're a fan of Cuba Libre, Roma Norte’s version will blow you away; it’s unlike anything you’ve ever tasted before, elevating the drink with unique twists.

A standout surprise for me was their "Sex on the Beach." Typically, this cocktail is overly sweet for my taste, but Roma Norte has perfected it, balancing the flavors in a way that makes it incredibly refreshing and enjoyable—by far the best I’ve had!

The ambiance is just as impressive as the drinks. The space is chic, stylish, and brimming with a lively yet relaxed vibe. The staff adds to the experience, especially Loren, the host, who is personable, cool, and makes you feel right at home.
