2019/01/09. I'm confirming this Place is still open & in operation & in Seaport Village, San Diego, CA, USA. The linked Website names this carousel, the 1895 Fair Park Looff Carousel. Change name of this Google Place? To match & specifically identify which carousel. Example name - 1895 Fair Park Looff Carousel by Charles I.D. Looff.
Built by Charles I.D. Looff, who made several carousels, including another one at Seaport Village, that was replaced by this current one. So there have been 2 Looff carousels at Seaport Village. That is reason why I'm asking if this Place name should be changed. To specifically identify which carousel.
I highly recommend this to anyone who wonders if you maybe interested. If you haven't ridden a carousel, do it if available & you don't have problems with it.
Great classic moving/rotating carousel ride. Many figurines to ride, hand carved by an artist, mainly horses. A bear, giraffes, camels, even a fantastic hybrid between what appears to be a seahorse(?) with a dragon(?) head, & others I don't recall right now. Also an open carriage/wagon, with bench seat, like classic horse drawn type (or reindeer in Santa's case). Options to ride figures that move up & down, or stationary/level; your preference. Plays the typical classic music of carousels, circuses, fairs. Very ornate, with pictures posted throughout (like scenic paintings). Mirrors cover the wall of the center hub. Creates an assistant effect of more, greater space & seemingly more carousel. Posted signs show the history of the carousel, & the creator, & the rules & safety requirements. Big. Takes a while to slow down when they turn off the ride; sometimes the staff helps stop it.
Future? Check news of Seaport Village. The whole place is being remodeled/reconstructed. I don't know if this carousel will survive the reconstruction & remain in operation. Hopefully it will remain in operation. A major asset & special attraction at...
Read moreHistoric carousel that I rode as a kid. Took my kids to ride it and it is a strict money pit now. Whoever runs this is all about greed. Cash only, No twenty dollar bills accepted, exact change only, 5.00 per kid. One adult is allowed to ride with children 5 and under as long as they stand. So This means for 2 kids if you do not have exactly 10.00 your kids can't ride. So people are paying 10.00 but they can't change a 20? I witnessed a Mom that had sat down on the sleigh be told to stand up because you cannot sit without a ticket. There were like 8 people on this carousel that sits 50-70 people. I also witnessed a grandpa and grandma taking their 3 grandkids and since only 1 of the 3 grandkids was 5 or under they told the grandma she couldn't ride without a ticket. I saw numerous people be turned away for not having exact change. I gave this 2 stars instead of 1 because the carousel itself is awesome and hand painted and all that stuff. But whoever is running this must be a joyless person who does not wish for kids to enjoy the historic carousel and only wants Parents to have a little bit worse of a day than they were...
Read moreWe showed up and the carousel it was closed and employees were supposed to be back at 7pm according to the sign they left. So we waited in line. At About 7:10 we were still waiting and not getting let on. Our Kids are antsy to get on us parents are all looking at eachother. The employees were just standing there eating candy and talking to eachother making no point to open the ride or come up to us. As you can see the windows are disgustingly dirty all the way around can’t even see your kids on the ride if you’re watching from outside. The employees were still faced, as if they hated their job. Didn’t say a word to us, just had a mouth full of jolly ranchers slurping & taking our money. The ride was very very short. & they upped...
