Well, it was my birthday the other night. My downtown entertainment was a blowout. Couldn't get to see the SD Symphony due to parking problems. After cop pulled me over for making a pass to another clueless driver driving 2 miles per hour trying to figure out what they MIGHT do, I passed, whoop-whoop give me your lic.,reg.,ins! So I though, hmmm, where is entertainment/fun? Let's try PB (Pacific Beach)...I'll take the long way around/to: via W. Mission Bay Dr. Just west of I-5 w/ few stoplight 'til the beaches. I parked at Belmont Park parking lot, which even on this busy weekend night 8pm was half empty. I heard music: Mike (& Aragon) [who also plays regularly at the Catamaran Resort up the street, on Wednesdays]. Sorry card doesn't have is last name. When I walk in I see the HUGE brightly lighted surf WAVE pool. Surfers were doing the last few rides. Really fun to watch, and probably very exciting to do! I heard some music over the sound system, VERY VERY GOOD sound system, blasts, not overly, but plays music loud enough to hear over all the action, bar room, dining chatter! When they closed the surf WAVE pool 8:30p (seems a little early for weekend night and lil to no residential nearby, why I discounted 1 star), I walked around to look at place. AND there was MIKE, singing the song I was amazed at hearing! Such good vocal & rhythm: acoustical guitar! Mike kept play as they turned out lights! I walked a bit further, past the BIG booth seating by the sandy dining area, near the LARGE square bar seating BAR. There were lots of umbrella covered seating areas, then some private party patio's and a ice cream/snack stand, which is also attached to the Boardwalk of Mission Beach that is just to the west: great sunset viewing! At the end of the surface property is another smaller wave pool for small board surfing & body boarding. There was a private party celebration! Guys & a gal having great fun trying to stand up & stay up on the small board in the rushing water wave pool. See pictures on GoogleMaps WaveHouse. Food looked good! Treats are great as I've had before. Drinks strong, but not too strong. Lots of choices of fare and drinks! Lots of seating, maybe a bit busy during warm beach days. Attendee to party suggested you need to book wave adventures online, about $30 an hour per person, and I'm sure they have a types of packages. All the people there were having lots of fun. And the live music played even while we were being shown...
Read moreDo not go here. You "normally" don't need reservations unless your Hispanic. We walked up to the bar the bar tender told us it was first come first serve even for cabanas. As soon as a family left we slipped into the seats then the waitress walks over and said she was saving the cabana for somebody else. We told her that the bar tender told us it was first come first serve. Then she told us we had to leave. We asked for the manager then she asked if we were ordering food. We told her yes. She probably thought we weren't. She rolled her eyes and left the cabana. Then the manager comes over I asked for his name he refused to give me his name. Then told is that you "Normally" don't need reservations. He admitted the people that wanted the table did Not have reservations, but people who wanted the table asked the waitress to save them a cabana. I felt racially profiled. My brother in law is in the military and stationed in SD he told me he would spread the word not to go here. This place is the worst. Party of 12 and we walked away. Ended up going to South Draft Mission, best...
Read moreWe got the fish tacos, chicken tenders, cheeseburger, pina colada, and watermelon daiquiri on the rocks (was supposed to be a frozen strawberry daiquiri but that wasnt available. ) The drinks were extremely sweet and couldn't taste any alcohol. I liked the fish tacos, my husband didn't, but they clearly fry everything else in the same oil as the fish. My kids chicken tenders and fries tasted like fish so they wouldn't eat them and they were extremely dry. The burger was just a regular burger with fishy fries. They should probably rake the sand they have in the bean bag toss area...spent most my lunch grabbing garbage from my 2 and 4 year old that they were picking out of the sand. When we got our food we had someone else's order mixed in with ours so we had to figure out what food was theirs and give it to them. Wouldn't be a "go to" lunch/dinner...
