Review for Sunday, Reggae/Dancehall/Afrobeats
The music is crackin' like fly-away dynamite. The DJ knows his craft. He seamlessly transitions, scratches and matches the music bass vibe. I particularly like that he plays the song long enough prior to the shift. The music genre is reggae, Afrobeats & dancehall. So the original Peter tosh would be overlay with dancehall not the original Peter tosh where you are chilling around the fire smoking a blunt.
Drinks could be more liquorish. I drink shots and that was kinda short. Both times. With pre-tip for the next anticipatory order. And still, stingy.
Cover is $5.00. I like that seating booths didn't require a reservation or falsified VIP persona. Each booth can seat up to 6. There are a few tables and bar seats. First come. The venue is small and so is the dancefloor but it's cool. After a certain age who is trying to hippity hop, jodance or joop across all the space. On a side note, to the reviewers who think someone who wears dreads is scary I want to say wake da eff up and get cultured and stop posting ignorantcy about hair commentary. The last time I heard that hair committed a crime was... oh yeah Nevaah. Anywho let me stay focused. To be clear, every hair and ethnicity enjoys this spot.
I arrived at 11 pm and there were 15 folk. At midnight there was 40. At 1 am the crowd fizzled. Here's the thing. If you are with at least a group of 4 you can make this work. If you are snatched women with a party of 1-2 then the testosterone of man is cavelike and unpalatable and these men are not offering drinks not even free water. But they will blatantly offer dirty diznik. Sit next to you and occupy your time. "Excuse me Sir, surely you do not think that you can afford me. Nor afford any conversation. Even hello is too long of a word. Let me just say 'hi' as I kindly smize disinterestingly. And if you are a gent, your pickins are slim. Unless your thing is women that look like gents.
In all fairness, the culture of San Diego is going to Reggae night the first weekend of each month or the night before a Monday holiday which typically is fun. The crowd will be different and perhaps more aesthetically pleasing and engaging. Perhaps.
Me, personally, if the DJ would sell a mix to download I probably will not come here unless I'm with my own ready made party crew. BTW, he takes no request so don't take it personal. He is DJing for himself not y'all. But he's a good DJ of himself and we just happen to benefit.
"Oftentimes in life you have to be your own party of one. Celebrate yourself...
Read moreI'm here visiting from Chicago visiting family friends. The cousins were flying in from Washington. Illinois and Washington both have new IDs. They let our group of 9 in with no issue. 30 minutes before close, a bouncer picked two girls out of our group and asked to recheck their IDs. He then walked away with the IDs with out explanation. We had to get another bouncer to find him. His explanation for taking the IDs was that, "they look fake". Sorry buddy, you just can't take our LEGAL IDS!!! We have to fly home in a few days, so that's a bit of an issue. It took 20 minutes of arguing and threatening to call the police for them to produce the IDs from this bouncer. After a third review of the IDs, he determined that "the Illinois one looks sort of real but the Washington is still fake. We don't feel comfortable serving you, get out." Scan the IDs and let me prove you wrong! Oh wait, they don't have a scanner. Their management and handling of the whole ordeal was a dumb waste of everyone's time. There's about 200 other bars you can go to in San Diego, avoid this place. 0/10, would...
Read moreMy friend stepped in the door paid the cover and then turned around to leave and they would not give her the money back for the cover charge back, really?!?you guys that hard up for cash? F-that B at the door.
I will say the bouncers and support staff were very nice and respectful in dealing with the situation.
This was last night (Jan 13th around 9:30). My friend even removed the stamp with the hand sanitizer. We were a large group that had been enjoying the bar for over an hour and my fiend was coming to meet us right as we were leaving to go have dinner. The woman taking money at the door was very rude. It’s only $5 so after arguing with her it wasn’t worth the effort to escalate to management, plus the bouncers acted like she was in charge, so the assumption was that she was management. She just soured our experience at your establishment. All of the other staff were great. The bartender took...
