If you're a TOP Gun fan, this place is a must. Ribs, and Mac and Cheese are great. The ambience is amazing; from aviation patches, hats and pins all over the place, to TOP GUN movies music and soundtracks. BUT... ...Service and attention. Well, it's really not that good to be honest. Me and my family are foreigners. Not sure the staff there is used to tourists. Nevertheless there is no excuse for what we experienced and the lack of attention we received. The waitress who was in charge of serving our table was very rude to us. Never came back to ask if we needed anything else, even though she did ask other tables. She even threw our bill to the table aggressively and walked away without a singe word like "thank you" when it was time for us to go. If there's a football game going on, don't even bother ordering for food or something, cause the staff will completely ignore you. I hope this situation never happens again to anyone and that staff can see this: please remember this place is more than a restaurant. It's a historic location for the vast majority of your customers. We don't go there just for the great food, we buy the whole experience. Do not ruin it with your horrible attitude and lack of quality attention- specially...

We walked up to the host stand around 5p on a Thursday. The patio area was mostly empty, but we wanted to get out of the sun so asked for an inside table. The person seating us rolled their eyes as they grabbed menus and led us in, which was a little weird but we figured they thought we wanted to be inside for the memorabilia and were tired of tourists or something, nbd. We were seated between the entrance and the kitchen, right in front of the soft drink dispenser. In the fifteen minutes we sat there, at least four members of the waitstaff - including the person waiting the table behind us - walked past our table, made eye contact, then completely ignored us - even when we held up hands or said "excuse me". No offer of drinks, no "someone will be right with you" - absolutely no acknowledgement of our existence at all. We eventually just left and went to BWW.
As a Kansas City native and fan of Top Gun, this was a spot I'd been really excited about visiting - more for the food than the nostalgia - which made the experience we had that much more disappointing.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy friends and I went to check out the top gun bar while we were visiting San Diego last week. It was a 2 mile walk from our hotel so I was really thirsty when we got there. I asked for a water while my friends decided on the beer they wanted. I asked the bartender 2 more times for a water. She finally got my water after she got the 3 beers for my friends. When we were almost done with our drinks, the bartender asked if we wanted another beer or wanted to pay out tab. We said we were good. Then a guy came over and said do you want another round or are you getting food or do you want your tab? He never smiled. I said we were deciding what we wanted to do. He came back 30 seconds later and repeated his questions. We decided right then that we weren't staying. The place wasn't packed.... There was no one waiting on our seats. He was just being rude. He had a Cleveland Indians hat on and we made reference to being from Ohio. Still no smile or conversation. Glad we got to see the bar because we are top gun fans but the employees or owners weren't...
