Carbon Grill — Restaurant in San Fernando

Char is the Star at this place. I ordered the Beef and Short Ribs with sides of Macaroni Salad, Cole slaw, Corn on the Cob and Fries. The Beef Ribs were my favorite, the Char was great. Sides went well, although I don't recommend the Fries, Cornbread would have been better. It also would be nice if these Beef Ribs could be cut shorter or get meat off the bone with the same Char. I had to wash my face after eating. Finally, ordering online was higher priced than in store. I don't see why some places do this or through a third party and then also ask for a tip. Definitely coming back. I visited again this first weekend in May and am happy to say the food was consistently good. Tried the Chicken as well this time and wasn't very impressed. With Pollo Loco and Pollo Campero down the block, this chicken was flavorful but a bit dry. They provided a good amount of salsa but nothing special about it. With all the great Char flavor on the meat, they should consider mixing some of the charred jalapenos they do in the salsa verde. i ordered delivery, so i don't know about atmosphere. i don't know what the problem is with this business is, but it is not good. order was very messed up.

as for the food, i give it a "nothing special." the potato salad might be good if they put something more than potatoes in it (and maybe a little more salt.) the coleslaw is ok, a little sweet for me, but whatever. the short ribs are the flanken ribs. while short rib is a tough cut, i think they could have cooked a little more. i did sauce on the side in case it sucked. it did not totally suck, but i am glad it wasn't on everything. was supposed to get flour tortillas, got corn. was supposed to get red salsa, got none. they dressed up the short rib plate with a grilled scallion and jalapeño, that was good. the seasoning on the ribs was alright. i'd tell you about the half rack of pork ribs, but that was missing.

so, to recap: they need to figure out what their problem is and fix it. the food is definitely...

Came on a Sunday around 5pm. There were a few customers but not super packed.

My husband and I decided to get the full chicken plate with 2 sides. We were debating on the sides and the cashier offered to have us taste samples of the coleslaw and potato salad. Really appreciated it and ended up like the potato salad a lot more. It was the dill.

For drinks, they have soda and sparkling water. They also offer free water and cups are out to grab by the customer. Water was nice cold and had a taste of cucumber. Really refreshing.

The chicken was so good! Juicy and great flavor.

We also enjoyed eating outside as it was a nice day out and they have a covered seating area, inside and out.

Credit card is accepted here. Definitely worth planning on...
