I don’t usually carry cash on me but I had $8 and figured I would try the place out. I had enough for a chili burger and I asked for one. Everything was fine until I went to go pay for my food, I had $8 in dollars, and I had 50 cents as an extra. I was going to put the remaining amount in their tip jar they had on their counter. I know it’s not a lot but it’s really all I had, and I don’t usually spend change. One of the short Latino cook said that it was going to be 11 cents to pay and I gave him 25 cents because I wanted to break up the quarter to put in the jar. He looks at me like im stupid and talks down to me saying that it’s 11 cents. Which I reply “yes I know, I want to give 25 cents in change.” He rudely grabs the one quarter out of my hand and slams the remaining change on the counter. Definitely didn’t put sh!t in the jar 😂!
I didn’t say anything and brushed it off, the other white haired cook saw it all happen and I think he felt bad for me because he gave me fries and a drink free of charge, it actually made me feel better. Which if he’s reading this I just want to say I appreciate the gesture, but if you’re the owner, you need to have a conversation about how your coworkers communicate to customers. I was visibly angry but I got the food and ate it. If im being honest it just wasn’t that great and im not saying this because of the experience I had before but it was not worth the hype especially for those prices which I understand, with inflation the way it is. But I would not waste my cash to go out of my way and buy their food. I don’t normally enjoy making these kinds of reviews on places that have been around for a long time. But this was my first experience going inside because NOBODY carries cash nowadays. It is an old school place and that’s what makes it unique. But I will never go...
Read moreWe went out of our way to stop here at Tommy's on 6/28/2023, Wednesday at around 2:30-2:40ish PM (driving from Hollywood, heading north back home over 200 miles.) As soon as we pulled up to the drive through we asked for the family pack. That was going great, till we asked to add on other items to our order as we are a big family driving on the road. The "man" taking our order had a rude tone, would answer us immediately-almost interrupting us while we spoke- being very short, to the point, and sounded so irritated like he was miserable with his life and job. So we drove off. People who sound miserable and irritated at their job should go work SOMEWHERE ELSE. I hope this "man" who was working at the window reads this. All we wanted was to eat some good food and go on with our day. We really wanted to try this place as we love diner/sandwich spots versus big food chain fast food. We just wanted to feed our family. I do NOT recommend this restaurant as a family-friendly place to eat!!!!! Thanks for wasting my time and gas. We were planning to spend over $100 dollars. I know that is not much but we went ahead and stopped at a restaurant for dine in and we left a $100 tip on top of our total bill because the service was ironically exceptional! Don't be a sour human bro! Peace out...
Read moreBeen coming to this Tommy's for decades, it's been my hangout since my high school days and 30 plus years later every time we come to visit that's the first & last place we eat every time we come to San Fernando. Their classic Chili Cheeseburgers are just one of those big, juicy, cheesy big messes that you get all over your hands where you don't bother with napkins cause your licking your fingers to the very end. There's several Tommy's throughout the Valley and each have their own little secret ingredient for their chili but all so far have been great, this one on Maclay in San Fernando is our favorite, (I also recommend the original Tommy's on Roscoe Blvd, Van Nuys right off of the 405 Freeway). As soon as you walk in you can virtually smell the pounds piling on, so if your looking for a small petite lunch don't come here, expect to roll out of there. Prices are average, 7-8 bucks for a combo meal and most of the time 3/4 into the meal your done, but it tastes sooooo good you can't stop eating. Thank you Tommy's for keeping this place open all of these years! If anybody has ever had a bad meal or service I would truly be shocked, 30 plus years and not once have I ever had bad food or...
