Not at all vegetarian friendly. Even worse, very poor customer service. The naan contains eggs. It was not announced anywhere on the menu that it does. Apparently "Eggs are considered vegetarian" it seems - since when? And the General manager made it worse by blaming it - saying it was our fault that we did not ask. Everyone knows that Naan contains eggs. No customer has complained it seems. I saw boards announcing "Gluten free", "Dairy Free", "Nuts free" etc. But products containing eggs are not announced and if we have a question we need to ask apparently. What should we ask next - does your drinking water contain only H2o or anything else? We have to ask for every dish apparently and they are not responsible. I have never heard such preposterous comments and such a terrible customer service? Should we make a checklist next time and run that by for every dish we order at this restaurant? The GM said no one complained about eggs, and after 15 minutes of arguing he contradicted himself saying that recently in the past 2-3 weeks many customers are asking if these are egg free so he will mention to their owner about this and they cannot influence their cooks on how to make. No one is asking to change the menu. We are just asking that you be sensitive to customer requirements and announce what the product contains. I told them that people might not even be aware that it contains eggs. He said that whole wheat breads - like Rotis do not contain eggs and refined wheat breads like Naans contain eggs, but in one of their 5 branches, Naans also do not contain eggs. Seriously? We are supposed to be aware of all these? He made it worse by trying to offer a discount - this cannot make up for the disgust I went through today. I strongly recommend that if you are particular about vegetarian and no eggs avoid this restaurant. I would like to give this negative stars, less so for containing eggs and not announcing it, and more so for the insensitive way of handling customers. Absolutely disgusted. Will never visit...
Read moreAmber India is a hidden gem in the heart of San Francisco. The restaurant is located in a small, unassuming building, but the food is anything but ordinary. Amber India serves up some of the most delicious Indian cuisine in the city, and the service is top-notch.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Amber India with my family. We started our meal with the naan paratha, which is a traditional Indian flatbread that is served hot out of the oven. The naan paratha was perfectly cooked and had a delicious, chewy texture. We also ordered the khadai paneer, which is a dish of paneer cheese that is cooked in a creamy tomato sauce. The khadai paneer was absolutely delicious. The paneer cheese was perfectly cooked and the tomato sauce was flavorful and aromatic.
For our main course, we ordered the Lucknow biryani, which is a classic Indian dish of rice. The Lucknow biryani was absolutely amazing. The rice was perfectly cooked. The biryani was also very flavorful, with a complex blend of spices that really blew our minds.
We finished our meal with the gulab jamun, which is a traditional Indian dessert made with milk, rose water, and sugar. The gulab jamun was absolutely delicious. It was sweet and creamy, with a perfect balance of flavors.
Overall, we had an absolutely amazing dining experience at Amber India. The food was delicious, the service was top-notch, and the atmosphere was inviting. We would definitely recommend Amber India to anyone looking for a great Indian meal in San Francisco.
The only downside to Amber India is the location. The restaurant is located in a small, unassuming building in a somewhat out-of-the-way location. However, the food is so good that it is definitely worth the trip.
If you are looking for a delicious and authentic Indian meal, I highly recommend Amber India. You will not be...

Pros -nice ambience -unique dishes. Nicely decorated and well served. -nice bar. -not too much wait time
Cons -exorbitant prices. Be prepared to pay atleast $50 per person. For a party of 4 we paid $200 and that too without any drinks and dessert.
-we ordered 1 roasted papad and 1 masala papad. They brought 4 pieces of roasted and masala each. When asked, they were like this is 1. 1 means 1 order and not 1 quantity. They didn’t care to clarify this is advance. Felt like a big loot. Ridiculous.
-we had passport app discount of 20% for Amber which they refused to accept/honor.
-food was bland and flavorless. Nothing like real authentic indian flavor.
-appetizers are costlier than main dishes.
-waiters were always in a hurry even when taking our order. They were hurrying us. They were like “make it fast we need to go to another table”.
-very small table for party of 4. Brought all food at once so there was no space left on table. Had to take appetizers in our plate all at once and give dishes back to make some space.
-no complimentary plain rice.
-very less variety of dishes even in the dinner menu. No traditional dishes like malai kofta, sham savera kofta, paneer chilly, paneer65 which are basic and given in an authentic indian menu.
-closes pretty early at 9:30 for being in SF.
Overall the vibe is just to make you feel rich and good about the ambience rather than focusing on service, food and value. Dining is well suited for filthy rich based on pricing and international community based on food taste. Maybe the bar experience...
