I've been to this restaurant twice now and was very disappointed both times. I honestly have no idea how it has as good of a rating as it does. My first visit to this restaurant was in April 2024 while visiting SF. We were looking for a high end dining experience and expected such at the Four Seasons. Unfortunately I was served the worst chicken I've had in my entire life, which still holds over a year later. When I sent it back, they agreed that it was "rubber" and offered me the option to choose a new dish. As my husband's food had already arrived I opted for a salad to try to speed my meal up so I wouldn't be eating alone. The "salad" turned out to be a huge ball of cheese with a small amount of lettuce and pears around it. It was not good and most definitely not a "salad", it was more a cheese ball which should be served with some bread and shared. Then we were offered a dessert menu which we were looking over and then before being asked what we would like they arrived with a "complimentary" dessert of their choice to apologize for the chicken. The problem here is that we intended to split a dessert and it wasn't the one that they chose for us. Finally when our bill arrived there was no price adjustment aside from them not charging us for the inedible chicken but still fully charged for it's replacement "salad". All in all, visit one was shockingly awful. I didn't write a review at the time as I assumed it was an off night but then we went again just last week, this time for breakfast and were again disappointed. On our recent trip we decided to try their breakfast, again, looking for an elevated experience beyond a diner. Unfortunately, every breakfast I've had at a collection of diners in SF (and other cities for that matter) were far better than the one I had here. The first issue was the toast. It was literally no different than Wonder bread. Cheap, flavorless, no texture, thin ... and cold. The basic breakfast was no better. They pumped it out so fast I can't imagine anything was made to order. A matter of a few minutes after ordering we had it on the table. The potatoes were soggy, the tomatoes were barely roasted, practically raw and the bacon was cheap, run of the mill bacon. There was nothing high quality... Infact it was low quality. I think Denny's would have done a far superior job. In addition to the disappointing food, our server didn't check in with us once. They never offered to top up our coffee and never asked how our food was. Anyway, at the price they charge and under the brand they are representing, this restaurant should be waaaaay better than it is. The only positive I will say is the big windows are nice, I appreciated the light and view our to the street. I will not be returning due to the bad food and...
Read moreHad a surprisingly bad dinner last night at MKT. Colleagues from another company took us out to dinner and the service was very slow. Unfortunately that wasn't the worst of it. We all ordered the scallops and after eating a bite of one, we noticed the scallops strongly smelled of ammonia (which can happen when seafood has started decomposing) The Bar Manager (apparently the only manager on duty) took the food away and offered to replace it with something else with no outward concern of the bad seafood that was just served to his customers. We all chose beef - a non-seafood replacement because we were concerned that they may not be properly refrigerating their seafood. When the bill came, they charged our friends the increased price of the beef rather than the original seafood cost. After complaining that, at the very least, our hosts should only be charged the price of the original rotten food (which wasn't terribly different in price considering the overall cost of the meal), the Bar Manager said that they couldn't make any accommodations other than offering us a free cocktail. During the escalating ordeal, we made a quick call to hotel management explaining that we were professionals from large companies that were in town for the RSA conference and were shocked by the apparent lack of customer service from such a well known brand. Hotel Management finally overrode the Bar Manager and he reluctantly agreed to some settlement with our hosts but not before he asked us for business cards to prove who we worked for. I guess if we didn't work for large, well-known companies he would have had second thoughts. We told him to look us up on LINKEDIN but we weren't giving him business cards. Very Disappointed. Four Seasons normally has incredible service, but not last night. #FourSeasons @FourSeasons #winedinner #sanfrancisco #pinotnoir #chardonnay #russianrivervalley @FSSanFrancisco...
Read moreThe MKT Restaurant & Bar at the Four Seasons is celebrated for its refined New American cuisine, sophisticated ambiance, and panoramic views—a dining experience synonymous with luxury in San Francisco. However, during a recent Saturday lunch, the gap between expectations and execution when it comes to vegan guests became starkly apparent. Despite indicating my dietary restrictions in advance through their table reservation system and requesting a callback to confirm a suitable menu, the restaurant failed to notify me that only their brunch menu is served on weekends—an omission mirrored on their own website. On arrival, staff scrambled to address my requirements, and multiple back-and-forths—including input from the chef and front of house—suggested an eager willingness to accommodate. Yet, this enthusiasm was undermined by confusion: my order for a vegan salad (which required removing cheese from an existing dish, an awkward workaround at a restaurant of this caliber) was mishandled, with miscommunication leading to dairy being served and ultimately a long wait for the corrected plate.
I should perhaps have known to be more vigilant given that our server asked me if I wanted a side of chicken or fish with my salad (yes, this was after all the back and forth about me being vegan!) Given the dairy that was sprinkled on my salad, my son was nearly finished before my own meal arrived. For a restaurant where entrées frequently exceed $30 or $40, such gaps in communication and vegan options are surprising in a progressive city like San Francisco. While the staff was courteous and eventually resolved the issues—and the views and ambiance were great—the experience highlights a need for greater awareness among staff about what it means for a dish to be vegan and more robust vegan offerings to truly match the standard Four Seasons...
