I'll have to come on here in August to change my rating to zero stars. One of the standout programs at YBCA is the film program. Or should I say WAS. The bosses here have seen fit to fire award-winning film programmer Joel Sheppard. August is the month after his last programs here.
Sadly, the curation in the galleries has gone downhill in recent years as well. If you need to look at something that thinks it's art, but don't like crowds or anyone else in the room, YBCA's abandoned galleries are for you.

Just gorgeous, well-appointed, and ready for your next major event. I've been planning events in San Francisco for almost 20 years, and while I've considered YBCA before and was even briefly negotiating a contract for a multi-space event that would have taken over the green space and Metreon too, I have TOTALLY failed until now to appreciate how perfectly suited YBCA is to a number of awesome event formats. Saw Edgar Arceneaux's immerse and powerful piece "Until, Until, Until". Fell into somberness and detail at Yoshai Jusidman's "Prussian Blue". It has changed the way I see that color and it brings me back to the beauty depth of the colors in the show. I am grateful for Space Brainz as I learned about the planning process and obstacles residents, city planners, and developers face when trying to build space for people.
