This bar has a few things going for it - great location, huge selection of beers - but the behavior of the main bartender is just plain unacceptable. To begin with, they did away with menus (neither printed nor QR) and with visible taps. Instead, there are two screens very high up at the far end of the bar displaying a selection of beers. The customer must walk to the far end, stare at the screen for a while, memorize a beer number, and go tell the bartender. (Nothing and no-one explains this). If the customer gets any of these steps wrong, they get growled at and/or yelled at by the bartender.
I had the misfortune of walking up to the bar and trying to order a beer. The bartender basically berated me. I finally did succeed in communicating my beer choice. Then the bartender gave me the normally 16-oz beer in a water glass - i.e. about 8oz - and charged me full price - I guess to take revenge on me for daring to annoy him.
Btw. I was only there because some friends were hosting an event. Other than us, there was no-one else. If our event wasn't there, the bar would have been completely empty on a Friday evening, when every other establishment on the same block was packed, often with long lines outside. I guess...
Read moreEeeek. I always get so defensive when people trash San Francisco without truly knowing the city but all I hear is that the city has gone downhill especially since the beginning of the pandemic. Walking into this establishment was the first time I ever felt like I couldn’t defend the city. The staff didn’t bother to look our way once as he must have been chatting it up with a friend. A friend that had a dog that was pulling the metal chair all over the place which is like hearing the shriek of nails on a chalkboard. Dude had the audacity to not really even ask more so than demand what we wanted. Yeah. No thanks. To top it off, this “special” dog excreted in the middle of the floor and it didn’t phase the dog dad nor the bartender. You’d think a desolate bar would give reason to cater to our limited needs but nope. He couldn’t care less. So if you’re looking for a bar that doesn’t serve food, has trash staff, and maybe looking for some stool next to the stools… this...
Read moreDecent sports bar with a neighborhood feel. Good beer selection, good prices, cheap but good food. Would come back.
Found this place wandering around looking for lunch while waiting for my hotel room to be ready for check in. Being game day, the bar was full of fans raucously cheering on their team. I decided to give it a try based on the large selection of beers on tap behind the bar. Glad I did! The prices are a lot closer to my hometown in central PA than what I've grown to expect from San Francisco! They have a very small kitchen, so don't expect gourmet food, but the roast beef pressed sandwich I had was very good.
Sports bars aren't my usual scene (hence only reaching 3 stars) but overall I enjoyed my lunch here and...
