The people who work here are really nice but the food is super overpriced especially for how simple (and processed) it is. Their $10 burrito only has eggs, (processed microwaveable) tater tots and cheese. EBX a few blocks up and La Playa on Noriega both also offer $10 burritos but theirs are filled with many ingredients - beans, rice, guacamole, cheese, pico de gallo, sour cream, lettuce etc. La playa also has a burrito for $9.50 with potatoes but theirs are actually home cooked instead of processed from a box. The empanadas were okay flavor wise but not so amazing to justify a price of $6. The menu outside said they were $4.50 and I was surprised to be charged $6 for one. A friend and I wanted hot chocalate one day and because this place isn’t just a regular coffee shop I was excited thinking maybe theyrd actually have cacao as it’s not hard to find, Trader Joe’s has it. Sadly they serve nesquick. I appreciate new businesses in the outer sunset but this one isn’t at all serving the quality I would have hoped for, especially at such a high price point. I look forward to more businesses being conscious of the ingredients they use in their food and...
Read moreI had recently gone to CHALOS drawn by the reviews on Yelp. I had an amazing costumer service experience. During this time lots of coffee shops advertise themselves as contactless service when in reality there is a dude behind a plastic screen (with a thin almost transparent mask) yelling your name (on top of your coffee) and waiting to handle your coffee with his hands. I don't see what they call contactless, safety and following rules on that. On the contrary, CHALOS provided us with a true contactless experience. Smartly they don't even come to you. You order your coffee and pay over your phone (we did it). They leave your coffee, you get it and go, simple! No one to annoy you or ask you to stay 6ft away while trying to reach for your coffee wearing a mask and spraying yourself with alcohol, all at the same time!! Nothing against who likes to do that, just the people that say they are following rules when they don't have a clue about what they are supposed to do regarding contactless and safety. I really recommend CHALOS coffee, you wont...
Read moreNice atmosphere, lots of natural light, ok coffee. I appreciate the yummy options for empanadas. What I don't understand is their "screen free" policy. Not offering wifi is one thing, but policing people's behavior rather than cultivating a culture of belonging and connection is another. You can order through their SCREEN without interacting with staff. Most of their customers are on their phone SCREENS and they said they allow that. Not allowing laptops because it's a "screen free" place feels more PRETENTIOUS and POLICING than supportive. Yes to talking and connecting with people...but who wants to do that when they're forced to do it?It's 2023 - some folks read on their laptops than phones. I think they should be less subliminal and just say they don't want students hanging with their laptops in their cafe. This is def not a place for studious people. Also overheard staff shame someone for ordering all vegan food, in which the customer left seeming uncomfortable. I wanted to like this place but will probably not...
