Perhaps my day was an outlier, but I had a very negative experience here. The layout of the shop is very confusing. There is a counter in the middle of the store with no large menu to look at, only paper menus so I wasn't able to figure out what I wanted before getting to the register. The chocolate for sale is also scattered around inconveniently. The staff were rude, but it think they were more stressed and overworked. The dining area was a mess, tables were dirty and the chairs were scattered around the room (it is unfortunate that tourists would leave it that way). Lastly the ice cream was mediocre, not what I would expect for the price. I ordered hot fudge and got cold hard chocolate on top. Also, it is very strange to order ice cream and have somebody deliver it to you. Seems inconvenient for the visitors and the staff. I would have had a better time going to a normal candy shop or ice cream shop. I hope the management can hire more people and make the process more...

Super yummy! But soooooo pricey! I mean yeah we ended up still buying the huge ice cream sundaes so i guess that’s the point but still whoa! Very delicious service was ehhh. So you go order at the front little cashier place and then they give you a number and you find a table (probably not clean) and sit. And someone comes out with your ice cream but they aren’t to happy to be there and when you ask kindly if they don’t mind cleaning the table it’s like you are asking the server to spoon feed you the ice cream. The cashier was super kind! I’m sorry i forgot her name but the servers mmmm. Maybe a bad day i mean it happens but not the best experience. The little mini chocolate making station in the back was very cute! It made up for the actually chocolate factory being closed. The decor is very old school too like an old ice cream shop that people went to on dates go have shakes...

Why call it “Ghirardelli Experience” when the staff is not trained or qualified to give the experience?

I can understand the wait on a busy day like today July 4. But I don’t understand the cleanliness and presence of mind.

Our order came in even though the table had tissue and cups and bowls from the previous guests. Our order was placed on the table first and then the previous guests used tissues and used bowls were picked with stuff dripping and falling off. This entire sequence of activities happened in the presence of the supervisor Phill.

I am not one for nit picking. But I don’t think anyone would want someone else used plates being picked up over your fresh food.

I hope they put the experience back in “Ghirardelli Experience” and...

My $15 ice cream and 3 other specialty drinks are served to dirty table with unclean bowls and cups. The staff cleaning the tables cleans all the unseated tables before the tables with customers waiting for food. It is not a sanitary practice to serve food and drinks onto dirty tables. People can get sick. It is also quite disgusting. The quality of food and drinks does not meet common standards. The hand dipped waffle cup is too soft and not crunchy. The berry chill feels really heavy and not refreshing. The mocha is way too creamy. Overall it feels like you are eating in a factory rather than at a place where they really want the customer to have a good experience.

I mean, you sort of have to stop at Ghirardelli if you are travelling along the SF waterfront. It's an insanely rich ice cream experience. Sadly, they are so well known and so popular (and thus so busy) that it's a bit of a McDonalds experience in terms of lining up for your order, waiting and then hoping to find a place to eat, with constant pressure to finish up and move along so the next person has a place to sit. It's an experience that is worth doing just to say you have, but if you can do take out, go for it and then find a nearby place along the wharfs to or at a park to sit and enjoy.
