This review isnāt about the food/beverages offered by the SF Brewing Co. My review is about the very obvious age discrimination I experienced twice at this establishment. While on a weekend trip to the city with my daughter and grandchildren, I was ignored by the server while ordering and eating our lunch. My lovely 30ish yo daughter had the servers complete attention. He directed all the meal related questions to her. Did āweāwant appetizers? any beverages? What did āweā wish to order as āourā mains? How was the meal? Did āweā want a drink reorder? Iām a retired registered nurse and am completely capable of ordering my meal, Iām (not yet at least) in need of my familyās assistance with navigating a meal order from a menu. I thought at the time it was amusing so I let it pass. The second time when attempting to order beverages while waiting for takeout, I couldnāt get service at the inside bar in spite of making eye contact with 2 of the 3 bartenders. After several minutes of waiting and being passed by while they served others, I left to get my (lovely) daughter and asked her to order the drinks. She got not 1 but 2 bartenders immediate attention and returned with our order (and a rather large smile because of her speedy accomplishment). Iād like to bring something to this establishmentās attention. Not only do 63yo women have the MONEY to bring their families to SF for a weekend of fun, we leave REVIEWS. It is absolutely absurd that in spite of having glancing attention paid to me by your server and bartenders it was my daughter who was able to get attentive service. Iām not sure when my daughter and her family will return to SF but I know when my husband and I will be and I can tell you with absolute certainty that when weāre back, SF Brewing Co isnāt going to be a restaurant we return to. How would we possibly get any quality service and attention without a beautiful young blond woman navigating our order? Shame on you SFBCo. I suggest you consider an employee training on non discriminatory service practices towards patrons of any age, gender or ethnicity. It appears based upon my experiences...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePricey, terrible food, and there's a small business mandate fee that isn't clearly said prior to entry and ordering. Can't speak to the drinks, but that seems to be their only good thing according to other reviews.
My bf and I came to Ghirardelli Square for a date, but we were absolutely disappointed with this place's food. It was for lunch (not drinking) and not very busy as there were a few tables open. I ordered the smash burger, which was dripping in sauce and messy. The sauce tasted like the taco bell sauce in their quesadillas. The cheese was also somehow only on the edges? Like there was no cheese in the middle of the burger as if it had melted off.
My bf got the clam chowder. I don't usually write reviews, but I think you should think twice before ordering food from here, especially if you want the clam chowder. Store-brought chowder would've been better. It was basically a liquid soup instead of thick and creamy. It was also barely any soup because whatever was in it took up most of the space. The potatoes and celery were chunky and cut huge for such a size that they served. The seafood in it also seemed raw.
Our server was straight to the point and I have no problem with that. However, he failed to appear when we needed our check. He stopped by several times for the table next to us while we were eating and I saw him talking with the kitchen staff a lot too. In the end, I went to the front to ask if I could pay there and was informed I had to wait for the server. I think she went up to the only other server that was visible to us and he ended up checking us out. Again not busy, so I don't know where he ran off to after the table next to us left. Another server also gave us our food and brought the wrong order initially because of that.
All in all, $15 for a terrible clam chowder that we could not finish and $23 for a messy, half-assed burger. Definitely not worth the price. The small business mandate fee appeared on the receipt. I was not told prior in any way or saw a sign for it. Terrible pricing for all of this and would not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe live next door to this brewery. I really loved the idea that we have a fun local bar open in the neighborhood. However, each time we go there, we leave with a huge disappointment. The service is non-existent. Everyone is rude and inconsiderate. The food is below mediocre. It is very greasy and not tasty at all, even as a comfort food option.
The last straw was when I brought a group of friends to enjoy a Sunday afternoon together. It was five of us and I politely asked the server to keep separate tabs for each one of us. She refused to do that even though the place was super empty and we were the only table there. OK, fine. You can't split a bill in more than three payments. We dealt with that. We had to constantly seek out her all throughout our visit. She was never there to check up on us.
To our biggest surprise when we were finally done, the server brought a bill with a 20% tip included (!!!). I immediately questioned her about that. She said that parties of six or more have to pay 20% tip automatically. Of course, I was not in a mood to leave that high of a tip for somebody who was rude and unprofessional making our visit unpleasant. I told her to remove that automatic charge from the bill. She called a manager. A manager came over and, in an extremely rude manner, started questioning us about how many people were in our party. It was always five people there!!! He raised his voice and was extremely unprofessional. Only after saying something about a bad review, he finally agreed to remove the extra charge.
I will never come back to this horrible place again!!! You need to work on your customer...
