Do you like food that has been treated shabbily and thoughtlessly? Then this is your place. I bought two meals here this morning: one hot breakfast sandwich, and a cold sandwich for lunch. I won't be back.
I've driven by this place many times telling myself I should stop-in, excited to try this little place. I was hugely disappointed.
The counter clerks -who clearly have no formal basic food safety or preparation training, as required by California and federal law- left my hot ham and egg breakfast sitting out on the prep board for 15 minutes, wide open to the flies and the elements and getting cold. Then, they shoved it in some heating appliance at the last minute.
Once the breakfast sandwich was burning hot, they put it in the bottom of the bag, then put my cold lunch sandwich on top, thereby ensuring both sandwiches would be -at least- unpleasant, and possibly unsafe. Oof. These were two separate meals, intended to be eaten hours apart (about which I informed the clerk when I ordered them); each ought to have it's own container.
I asked the clerk why he would put the hot breakfast sandwich in the same bag as the cold lunch sandwich, and at the bottom of the bag, thereby causing several problems, from food safety to basic customer inconvenience, especially after I told him these were separate meals. His reply was to tell me I have a bad attitude. I have a bad attitude? Wow. This guy is clearly unfamiliar with the concept of self-reflection.
Obviously, I won't be back.
Why? These are such basic requirements for food safety, and for customer care. There is no excuse for this owner to hire and force onto the community, obviously untrained food workers with little to no experience, thereby promoting such unsafe and rude practices by inexperienced and...
Read moreThe owner insults people on the Internet. This one WAS a customer until he insulted me and tried to pick a fight; must’ve thought I was a stranger. NEVER eating there again. There are so many other sandwich shops in SF. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere. I’d rather go to Subway than give this guy my money.
UPDATE: In response to the owners response – I LOVE San Francisco. I do not like our governor. The owner went out of his way to insult me on social media - a customer (he did not know this when he went out of his way to insult). Simply because I expressed dislike for the governor on the social media. COMPLETELY unprofessional. And his response is a joke. Keep politics out of your business. I do not care about your politics. But the fact that you insulted me, called me names and assumed because I do not like our governor, I must be a fascist. I will never, ever eat a sandwich at your shop again. I could care less about your politics. It’s your attitude that needs an adjustment. Who cares if you love our terrible governor?? Your sandwiches are way over salty. The only cool thing about your shop is that you have some vintage video games. I have so many other choices in this BEAUTIFUL city! I’ll get less salty...
Read moreHow have I not gone here sooner? This is definitely the best sandwich spot in the neighborhood. If only I weren't moving away! You should go here though. Check out the beautiful house plant shop next door too.
I got the wild mushroom sandwich, delicious ham and cheeses, the bread was perfect, great flavor combinations, large portion, fresh and pickled veggies, quality ingredients, perfect proportions of the various ingredients..it was so good I wanted to write a review while I was eating my first bite. A lot of things on the menu looked great, and the pastries looked enticing too.
I'm not really a sandwich person.. usually (other places) the bread is too dry and they're kinda sad. These are definitely not your average sad sandwich. Happy sandwiches with fun names are here. Also they made it in proper sandwich layers (not little wads here and there), so you get some of everything in each bite.
It's great to have a delicious, casual spot that has a real chef (one that actually cares what things taste like). He was super nice too and gave me a peanut butter cookie since it was my first time there. I haven't eaten it yet since I'm too full after that beast of a meal. It smells great though....
