I bought a mini day pass and took the opportunity to ride around town today with my mom. We came out to Dinner Richmond specifically to grab some pork buns. There was a line when we arrived and another when we left, so this place is popular. The person in front of me actually came from Sacramento to stock up. She got 6 dozen buns in total, including roast pork, pineapple custard and green onion. She said she preordered the day before since she was getting so many. So, I had high expectations. I ordered 10 pineapple and roast pork buns and asked for 1 to be set aside so Mom and I could sample it in the store. It was delicious. Unfortunately, they were out of the other buns or else I may have gotten some more. Next time.... Note, price per bun varies and it's cash only.

One of the only Chinese bakeries in town that still uses lard in their recipes, and this really sets off the flavor of the dough and the flakiness of the tart. Egg custard in the tart is cooked perfectly with mild sweetness and a jiggly consistency inside the incredibly flaky tart. Cocktail bun is soft and so addicting with the coconut filling. BBQ Pork Bun is pillowy and chewy, smoky, and has a strong flavor in the pork. Incredible spot. Skip the rest and just come here, first thing in the AM, to load up on your Cantonese pastries. Bring cash.

Came here after hiking at the Marin Headlands. Since I was in the area, I decided to pass by and get some Chinese baked goods. And I'm glad I did. There were many choices and all of them looked equally appetizing. Decided to order the essentials - bbq pork bun, hotdog bun, spam and egg bun, curry bun and, of course, egg custard. I had to wait for about 10 minutes because they were out of the custards. The wait made it sooo difficult not to start eating the bbq pork bun. It was warm and pillowy-soft and the bbq pork had the right amount of sweetness to it. It. Was. Good. The egg custard came out of the oven flaky and warm and satisfying. The prices were very reasonable IMO. Plus, parking wasn't difficult at all. (P.S.: I'm writing this review in the car while I'm eating the bun and custard. Lol.) My only negative comment -...

I've been passing by this bakery for three years, and it wasn't until recently that I saw the Yelp reviews. I can't believe I've passed one of the best places to get pork buns in the city! I also can't believe there isn't a line out the door all the time..

The bread on the bun was sweet, and the pork inside was balanced between sweet and savory. I also got a pineapple/red bean bun, it was delicious too. And the total price was less than $3.

Plus, the woman who helped me was super friendly and had a big smile on her face at 8am. (Though I should note that I was wearing cat ears for a charity 5K run, and my friends were in hot dog costumes.. That made everyone smile that day.)
