An Unfortunate Experience at Sichuan Tasty Restaurant
I dined at Sichuan Tasty last night( Christmas night),a place that previously had good reviews. Unfortunately, my experience was far from pleasant, significantly tainted by a combination of service and food quality issues.
Firstly, the restaurant was extremely busy, and it was evident that they were understaffed. This led to a prolonged wait before we were seated and an equally slow service throughout the evening. The lack of staff seemed to contribute to a general sense of disorganization and frustration among the patrons.
The main issue, however, was with the food. We ordered the fish fillet in hot chili oil, a dish that, under normal circumstances, would be a highlight in a Sichuan restaurant. Regrettably, the fish was not fresh. It had a noticeable smell and a taste that hinted at spoilage, which was deeply disappointing and concerning.
Upon bringing this to the attention of the staff, the response was disheartening. Rather than investigating the issue or offering an apology, the manager deflected and even blamed me for the complaint. She admitted that due to the unexpected rush, they sold out all the fresh fish and they had to use older stock from their refrigerator but insisted it was still fresh because no other customer complained. This response not only showed a lack of concern for food safety but also a disregard for customer experience.
What’s more distressing is that I experienced stomach discomfort and diarrhea after the meal, which further indicates that the fish was indeed not suitable for consumption.
In conclusion, Sichuan Tasty fell short in both service and food quality during my visit. The handling of the situation by the management was particularly disappointing. For a restaurant that prides itself on sichuan dishes, serving potentially spoiled food is unacceptable, and the lack of accountability is a major concern. This experience has certainly deterred me from returning or recommending...
Read moreThe food was absolutely great! The service however has been inconsistent. We have eaten here both in-person and take-away. The first time was take-away, and they didn’t include cutlery/chop sticks, despite us requesting it; and because we were staying in a hotel, we didn’t have any spare utensils, so we had to go out to get some from a nearby restaurant, despite wanting to stay in, just an extra hassle. We wanted to give them a second chance, since the food was so good, so we went in person. We had great food and good service. We then went again and the food was excellent; however, the server kept asking us if we wanted to take-away, even after telling her we wanted to stay to finish. That’s despite the restaurant being empty and being nowhere near their afternoon closing time. We had to ask the server for more tissues when she clearly saw we had used up the two we had. Then she just brought us one more each. Then when my partner asked for more tea, she acted like it was a hassle. I always tip, but I tipped less than usual on this visit and the lady acted like it was being unreasonable, but I’m not tipping 15% on a $60 meal when you’re not...
Read moreThe sweet and sour soup had too much vinegar, and too much white pepper. The smell was just weird.
The kung pao chicken was not good. It was sweet and sour and spicy, almost as if they were making sweet and sour chicken… as if they made a mistake but corrected it by making it spicy and serving it.
The fried chicken with hot peppers was decent at best. The breading was all wrong. It was too much of it and the texture was too hard.
The spicy wontons were nothing special. The meat tasted apparently frozen for a while. The chili oil was a partial saving grace — it had hints of “mala” spicyness that stays in your tongue, which I appreciated.
The XLB were not good. There was barely and soup inside the dumplings. The skin was way too thick. The soup meat tasted apparently frozen for a while. The vinegar dipping sauce had no infusion...
