Icu Market Deli & Ice Cream — Restaurant in San Francisco

The guys who run this liquor store are helpful (tho the youngest middle school-aged brother could stand to learn some manners and customer service skills) , they stay open late and they serve Mitchell's ice cream by the scoop (including my personal fave flavor, horchata!). They've got a liquor stores' usual fare--everything from potato chips to phone chargers-and though the prices are a little jacked up, it's worth an extra 50¢ for a can of dog food when you realize your mut ate the last of his kibble at 1:45AM. While location is a plus in relation to my home, it's also one reason why I gave this joint only 3 stars. 6th St and Mission has always had a sketchy reputation and dealing with the usual gaggle of spare-changers posted up outside this establishments' doors is a case-in-point. Advice to out-of-towners: make sure not to linger when using the ATM, get what you came for and go, and when you do, don't look to long at anyone. Update: NONE of the good things I wrote about this place (2 years ago) are true anymore! 😔 ESPECIALLY regarding treatment of customers - ALL the new guys (day & night shifts) are rude and disrespectful. EXAMPLES

1. To man in wheelchair: "Hurry up! You're in the way!" When it's THEIR fault the already tiny aisles have NO room to maneuver because excess inventory is stacked up around the corners and sticking out all over the floor. 😲

2. To woman who objects to the price of ONE pint of ice cream jumping from $6.50 to $10 in the same week: "You don't like it?Go somewhere else!" 😠

The kebabs are a HEALTH HAZZARD - there have been multiple reports of food poisoning 🤮 from rancid meat because OLD kebabs are labeled "FRESH" and sold the next day. 🤢

Love their ice cream for 1. And due to me living on the same block, I tend to do most of my shopping at ICU. I kinda like that my local stores/restaurants know me well enough that I can go in and ask for a pack of cigarettes and they pull the right ones down without me having to say which ones. Or I can go in and tell them what flavor(s) of ice cream and they can probably tell me what size I want every time. Depending on the flavors they have at the time I might be looking, they might even be able to tell me what I was gonna get too! I like that.
