I had a wonderful experience at this location. This hotel is absolutely amazing for what it is and that is an old hotel being renovated as enjoyable and affordable option in the heart of San Francisco. The staff here was absolutely amazing. Erica at the front desk was incredible from the beginning to the end of my trip. I needed someplace to put my luggage she took care of it, I wanted a bathtub in my room she made sure that it happened, more tea at breakfast absolutely, personalized dining recommendations she had those too. Not only her every employee I encountered, including housekeeping was extremely helpful and just pleasant overall Their attitudes were amazing. You truly felt like they wanted to make your trip as comfortable as possible. My room was exactly like it looked online. They have a beautiful rooftop pool, which is lovely just to hang out by and if you want to swim in it, it’s heated, which is definitely a bonus. There is a small gym that isn’t anything to write home about, but you can definitely get your sweat on if that’s something that is a priority for you. The continental breakfast is small but efficient and they’re good at keeping it stocked. They are also working on a restaurant so soon there will be a restaurant here so you don’t have to leave or order in food.
As for “negatives” Which I hesitate to even call that, but definitely want to mention in an honest review. 1) The walls are very thin here, not uncommon in an old building. It was very loud at night although the city did not keep me up. I did wake up several times hearing people walking above me and in the hallway and what not. At the time I am writing this review, which is November 2025. The hotel is under renovation and as it is under renovation, there are signs of renovation about and things still left to be done. It’s an old building and there are still many signs of this. Clearly they know this as they are working on it.
I paid half of what I would’ve paid at any other hotel in San Francisco to stay at this hotel and had a lovely and luxurious experience. I had every amenity I wanted I felt well taken care of and safe at all times and I would recommend this hotel to anybody that had the same goals as me. This hotel is in a part of town that is near the “bad part of town “ There are a couple streets I would avoid walking down. It’s pretty obvious which ones they are. It wasn’t hard for me to avoid those streets at all. I was never harassed or approached by anyone in anyway when walking around the hotel or to the Moscone center...
Read moreMe and my family stayed at SoMa House on June 13 and 14th. We previously stayed in 4 different hotels across California in Salinas, Yosemite and Lake Tahoe for an extended graduation trip which started in LA. I rarely ever do reviews but this was an interesting stay to say the least. When we booked the hotel room for SoMa through Expedia the pictures included in the purchase had a pull out bed. When we got to the hotel that is not what we were given. Thankfully, we met Sam at the front desk. He diligently worked with us to see if we could find another room with a pull out cot. However, despite his immense help the other rooms were no better in terms of cleanliness of specifically the pull out cots/sofa. There were no mattress protectors on the cots and the sheets were pretty dirty as well as the sofa itself. We decided to stick with the original room given to us, but Sam was an awesome host and extremely apologetic. He even managed for us to get a discount and told us the best places for us to visit and those areas we should avoid.
Breakfast was mentioned to be included but it was just small muffins and some fruit offered along with coffee or tea that I wouldn't even offer to the drug addicts that were found on every corner in SF. Furthermore, when I used the restroom and moved the back piece of the shower curtain, a marijuana vaping device fell out. This was particularly upsetting because the hotel is advertised as smoke-free, and I have health conditions that prevent me from being around such substances or in areas where it has been used. And the bathroom itself did have a urine-like odor. We were subsequently told that the rooms are cleaned but not inspected so it all made sense. The area itself is not the safest [and that says a lot coming from a New Yorker] but they did have security around the clock at the entrance and in the parking lot to monitor the cars for potential break-ins. [Side note - We constantly saw signs across LA and SF that said to not leave anything valuable in our car to prevent theft.]
Overall, Sam was the highlight of our stay at SoMa. He was kind, considerate and knowledgeable. I want to note that this hotel appeared to be a place where a younger demographic seemed to frequent which is fine because despite that, the hotel was quiet and clean overall. But if you're looking for a family-friendly hotel where you feel you can fit in and have a sit down meal/breakfast among other families, this is not the...
Read moreTotally rude and disrespectful the attention from the gentleman who was at the hotel on Wednesday at 10 pm. I was going to check in and wanted to change my reservation; I never said anything about canceling it, just changing it from 1 week to 4 days. He told me that I couldn’t do that, that he was going to charge me a penalty for one day because I was canceling. I told him I’m not canceling, just changing. He called two managers, and apparently, they all told him that he couldn’t do that and that I couldn’t stay for just 4 days; I had to pay for 7 days if I wanted to stay at the hotel. Since I was tired because I had been in classes all day and I just came to the city for my school, I said okay, charge me the penalty, cancel the reservation, and let’s make a new one just for 4 days. He told me he was only going to charge me for 7 days; he couldn’t do that. I asked if I could talk to the manager, and he told me to sit there and wait for him to arrive at 12 am. I told him I didn’t like the service he was providing, and he had my bags brought to me since I had left them there in the morning. He said he couldn’t do anything and started raising his voice when I told him that he didn’t have the authority to treat customers like that, that he should respect me, even as an educated woman who has never disrespected anyone, even though he was testing my patience. He told me to leave and that he couldn’t do anything, and I either stayed and paid $1000 for the whole week even though I wasn’t going to stay for 7 days or I could go because he couldn’t charge me for just 4. I repeated a thousand times that he should charge me the penalty; I had no problem paying it, even though I didn’t think it was fair since I wasn’t canceling, just changing my reservation. But even without understanding those policies, I was willing to pay him. I said okay, let’s act like I canceled, charge me the penalty, and I’ll make a new reservation for the days I need. His response was always NOOO; it was either the 7 days or nothing, and he was always shouting at me. He even expected me to wait for the manager in the lobby until the early morning. TOTALLY RUDE; I WOULD NEVER STAY THERE. I went to Fiona in the middle of the night with my bags, and they treated me...
