I have never given a Japanese restaurant a one star review. A group of three people. The tea that we receive was diluted water added to it so many times there was no more flavor.. for five dollars for tea that is nothing more than colored flavorless water
The chicken Katsu dish that we ordered the curry was so diluted down very watery very little flavor. It’s as if you purchased a Safeway package of curry seasoning and just added water to it.. One of the people at our table, refer to it more like a stew.
As you will see from the photo, there is actually chunks of beef in our chicken Katsu. One member at her table does not eat red meat. So that completely killed that dish for that person..
The table directly across from us, a table of eight ordered vegetarian food. They were tourist, but they complained that there was pieces of meat inside their dishes..
The combo tempura that we ordered was soaked in oil. All the vegetables were completely drenched with oil. The batter was drenched with oil. We tried to use napkins, the squeeze it off there, so it would be less greasy. And it was soggy instead of crisp. There was only one small shrimp in the tempura. I would not call it a prawn. It was very anemic and starving. If it was, it was the thinnest prawn 🍤 I have ever seen in my life..
The udon was OK but apparently there was too much MSG and one member at her table is allergic to MSG. They get a headache and their face and ears turn red and they have to go to the bathroom from exposure to MSG..
Many years ago used to go to this restaurant, and the quality of food was better and the service was better. It’s sad to see a restaurant deteriorate to this level..
For those of you who don’t know what real good Japanese food taste like some of you may think the food is OK.
But this review is just to save the time and money of people who really love Japanese food and know what good quality food is to not to waste your time or money. If you like McDonald’s (fast food, or frozen food ) quality of food, this place might be for you.
This is only the second time in my life that I was unable to finish my Japanese food. All three of us did not finish the meal. Only the miso soup was good that...
Read moreAfter going back and forth looking for a restaurant to have lunch in the Japantown mall, we settled on this place, and unfortunately I walked out a bit disappointed. I'm not sure whether it was just because they were busy or not, but the staff was not the most welcoming, nor at all the most attentive during our meal.
I usually enjoy udon noodles of any kind, but I was not fond of theirs. I will admit that my pallet is not the most refined, but it tasted like they used a simple miso broth for the noodles, which was very plain, as well as the miniscule quantity of beef being dry and tough. I highly do not recommend this dish as an option to eat, my friend's curry was good, as it is usually difficult to mess up said dish.
The physical environment was nice to dine in, unfortunately it was not enough to cover the fact that my meal and treatment was an overall disappointment. I would probably skip this restaurant when in Japantown, perhaps a different dish, and a less busy day would make a difference, I'm not...
Read moreI'm baaack. Really love this place, think it's my new fav in the mall. Just to shake things up I sat in the back-- woohooo, walking on the wild side. It's equally beautiful with the same warm wood, and larger tables. I can understand why there's loud music in front as it's a young crowd. Being a crabby older person i decided to sit in the serene back room, which I had to myself. Actually, not so serene, the music was blaring just for me. (minus one star). Later a couple families arrived & eventually the entire room was noisy, drowning out the blaring music. So why? Just why is the loud music necessary? Maybe it's just me, I didn't take a poll. Anyway... When I find something I like, I keep ordering it, so Goblin Roll, sans mayo again. How do they manage to get perfectly ripe avocado, and that crispy shrimp, & that dusting of chili powder for a subtle kick. Since I gobbled down the Goblin in record time, decided to try the Agedashi Tofu. OMG, perfectly thin crispy outside, creamy...
