Tenderloin has an abundance of Vietnamese restaurants in-fact there are as many as 4 specialized Banh-Mi (sandwiches) restaurants. Saigon Sandwich and L&G Vietnamese Sandwich are two that are literally across from each other. After trying out Saigon Sandwich, I decided to give L&G Vietnamese Sandwich a try.
This is another small primarily to-go restaurant, but I think it has a couple of seats inside. At the peak lunch hour on Saturday it looked like they had just opened and there were a couple of people standing inside waiting for something. I did the same. After about 10 minutes of so they started taking orders. I think they were waiting for the bread or protein, can't be sure. Anyway the menu again is pretty simple a couple of different types of sandwiches including BBQ pork, BBQ chicken, meatball combination etc. Most of the sandwiches are around the $4 mark with tax.
I got the BBQ Chicken sandwich and soon was on my way. The sandwich was neatly packed but it was haphazardly put together. The French roll was not crunchy and the chicken had a weird smell. Overall this was an average sandwich.
I decided to give L&G another try but this time found that they had been closed due to a health code violation. That's when I decided no more tries, I'm sticking with Saigon sandwich which is just...
Read moreWe decided to order from L&G for a work lunch. Although we had a low budget per person, we found L&G's prices to be super reasonable, so that everyone was able to get more than enough food.
I tried the Chipotle Pulled Pork Banh Mi, as I had never seen chipotle pulled pork as an option for a Banh mi. It did not disappoint! I received a generous portion of the chipotle pulled pork, which was super moist and flavorful and paired surprisingly well with the carrots, jalapeños, and other condiments on the sandwich.
Others in my party tried the other types of Banh mis, and several people tried the spring rolls as well. Everyone loved their food, and we only spent $106 for food for 13 people, including the tip.
Also, although it is only a small place, they had our order ready right on time, even as they were serving customers coming in for lunch, so it was quite timely.
Definitely recommend this place for a solid Banh mi at super...
Read moreHands-down best banh mi value in SF! Reviewing because I live for this shop and have never wished a place to survive so much in this economy. For $5-6, you get the most loaded banh mi with the juicest portions of meat and stuffed full with pickled veggies too. They're so stuffed, I can barely hold them tight! My favs are the Chipotle Pulled Pork and the BBQ Pork.
The bread is super soft and even great the next day if you toast it! I usually buy several at a time and portion them throughout the week. The shop is in the tenderloin so be aware the area can be a bit seedy. Don't recommend indoor seating either since it's small, but pickup is super fast if you call ahead to order. I always ask fo extra pickled veggies and the front guy is super nice about it! The sticky rice with sausage is great too.
Imo, this shop is much better than the more famous Saigon Sandwich across the street. But see...
