I attended the Set Underground event at Madarae featuring DJ Mahmut Orhan, which turned out to be a highly disappointing and distressing experience. The event was excessively oversold, leading to intolerable overcrowding. Moving, breathing, and accessing basic amenities like restrooms were nearly impossible due to the cramped conditions.
As a part of the Turkish community in San Francisco, this event had special significance for us. Instead of a pleasant evening, we faced an utterly uncomfortable and unsafe environment. Even those who had booked VIP tables were caught in the overcrowded mess.
Additionally, the attitude of the security staff, particularly a blond bodyguard with a neck tattoo on the left side, was unacceptable. He forcefully took a glass from my friend's hand and spilled its contents on the ground. My friend, unfamiliar with local regulations about not taking drinks outside, deserved a polite warning rather than such aggressive treatment. This incident was emblematic of the poor management and lack of hospitality we faced.
Choosing Madarae for such a large-scale event was a grave mistake. This experience cost us financially and emotionally, overshadowing what should have been an enjoyable night. The event organizers and venue management need to seriously reconsider their approach to ensure future events are safe and enjoyable.
I hope this review helps others avoid such a dismal experience and prompts Madarae and Set Underground to improve their event management and...
Read more2 days in a row, the same bouncer looked at us (2 black guys) and made an immediate executive decision and told us "we're at capacity guys". The first day I sorta believed him, although 6 persons got out as he was saying that. . The next day, we decided to give it another try, just to get another data point and it was much earlier in the evening. But same exact words: "we're at capacity guys. You're not getting in here unless you have a reservation". I believe that bouncer is not operating in a vacuum and he's been given directives from the owners. The ease at which he told us to get lost 2 nights in a row speaks volumes. I did not believe that this type of attitude existed in San Francisco, but go figure! I would not go spend my money there now anyway based on this data, but anytime I am in the city, I will collect more information on this place and keep this thread updated. And sorry, no pictures or anything because it was raining outside and it was not worth my time. But as I said, as I collect more info to properly review this place, I will post here. Thanks...
Read moreAgain this place would be a great nightclub for jazz vocals and so on The problem is they've overcrowded the dance floor with table service so they can rip off dweebs who have more money than they have common sense and on top of it they overcharge the people who continue to come back to this place for a good time in favor of ripping off tech tweets with too much money and no common sense we don't need another venue like this here in San Francisco I love it when people make excuses for bad management practices simple fact of the matter is San Francisco doesn't need another space like this where people get ripped off because they're stupid and this nonsense where you're catering to different taste it's just absolute hogwash The simple fact in the matter is the customer is king and you guys have forgot that because you're ripping off idiots but it's just amount of time before...
