Well we spotted this bar on google after a 10 hour flight into San Fran as we needed a drink and it was before 10pm. I am 50 year old White male and my Wife is a 57 year old black woman. We were refused a drink as their requirement written on their wall said if you appear under 21 you must provide ID before being served (we had left our ID in the hotel). Some common sense should have been shown here as being over 50 with middle age spread, plenty of wrinkles and a grey beard may have given a few clues that I maybe was telling the truth of being over 21 years old!! Joke and joke of a bar! Not the best start for our first visit to a Multi racial cosmopolitan city such as San Fran!! It did cross my mind that was it about age as I’ve been to most parts of the USA for many many years and have never had such a...
Read moreIt was kinda weird but there aren't a lot of options for just a drink in the Fisherman's Wharf area. But honestly it didn't really matter as for us, this was the best spot even if there were 20 other options. It is a local spot so if that scares you away, then that's on you. We loved that about the place and met some really great people!
The owner (I feel dumb for not remembering her name) took great care of of us at the bar and we had an awesome night. We had walked all around San Francisco all day and really needed to chill out, take a break and unwind from the day. It worked.
The owners are a couple from New England, if that scares you away, that's on you also! But to quote another bar from Boston, I can guarantee that "everyone knew our name" by the time we left. Even if we weren't in any state to...
Read moreThis is a review of another kind. While the ambiance and vibe of the bar are very cool, local and friendly, our interaction was one of a more personal nature. My 8 year old niece had a difficult personal loss, and we asked to use the bar bathroom.
The kindness and warmth with which the bartender, and especially the manager on duty reacted was exceptional. Laurie, the manager, not only checked in with a neighborhood group to try to locate the stolen item, but followed up with us days later, to make sure we were doing ok. So far above and beyond.
Its rare to find a business with so much kindness and heart. I will go have a drink there when I am in SF, for the rest of my life. We cannot thank Red Jack Saloon enough for their humanity and thoughtfulness.
