The only reason I'm giving this a 2 and not a one like I think it is now is because it's a huge part of who I am as a person. In pier 39 Hard Rock, sometimes with my dad, sometimes with our whole family, we could come here in the dark atmosphere and sit at our usual, off to the side booths. I loved it; the music, the service, the sheer size of the menu, and of course the happy hour which went to TABLES like most places here in SF, not just the bar.
Now? My experiences, my memories, and my cherished dark atmosphere is gone. It probably started with that giant atrium/dining room expansion has ruined that dark, almost sexy feeling, the closeness and intimacy of being just in your own world outside, hidden from the normally very bright and windy pier. It was a gem. The rock memorabilia and decorations, the new seats which make it look like some beach house (not the "Hard Rock" vibe at all) and shaved down menu with higher prices (22 bucks for a burger go to in-and-out for about 5, instead) just because it's a "tourist spot"... despite them being alllllll over the country.
When we went there today, we waited for about 5 minutes before the host came out, not even at the host stand. I was just telling my parents we should dip because I got bad vibes already, not just from the lack of service but the fact it had changed so much because it's under possibly new management. Once your actually at the table, or atleast for us, we sat there another 10 minutes, not even getting our waters because the single server was trying to cater to a group of 15's needs while disregarding the other smaller tables. I get that this is a common thing, especially since a server makes more money off of those large parties, but it doesn't take away from the fact that there could have been other servers there to step in andhelp so we don't feel inconsequential.
To sum up my latest Hard Rock Pier 39 experience, I would have to say it's ruined my entire view of the company, which is what it is now, not a comforting place to get good priced food and quality, CARING, service-- but a company driven by money and profit just like all the others coming up here in the city.
I don't know if it's the times, or the aftermath of COVID, but there is little to NO semblance of service training or throughouness ANYWHERE. This isn't just a one restraunt issue, but a collective industry hiccup of the times.
Disappointment from me, who has been raised by hardworking parents in the restaurant business, whether in management or serving. The numbers of well trained, competent, and tactful service from all areas of this industry is pathetically declining, and I hope everyone is noticing. Someday, at some places, we'll bounce back. Until then, my review is as it shows in the...
Read moreMy family and I are visiting from Texas and decided to try the Hardrock Cafe because we have heard so much about this iconic restaurant. However, we did not have the best experience at this location. First of all our waiter (Pedro, I think) was very nice, attentive and recommended certain dishes with very good knowledge of those dishes. Even after a longer wait than we would have liked, our food came out hot and fresh. The diablo burger was not as spicy as we are used to, being from Texas, but it was still very good. I had the Duo Fajitas and they were good, steak cooked to perfection and the chicken with the chargrilled taste was very tasty. This is the part that was disappointing, I am from Texas (the south) so racism is a part of the fabric in some of the areas there, however, with San Franciso being a melting pot of cultures, ethnicities that represent all types of cuisines, I never thought I would experience the blatant disrespect from the manager at this establishment. We were the only people of color in the restaurant at that time (after 5 p.m.) and we watched her walk passed us several times and not even acknowledge our table. And before you say that maybe she did not see us because they were busy, it was not. We watched her go to each table and ask if anything was needed and would personally bring condiments to those particular tables. Both my daughter and my husband stated that maybe she is not a manager and she's just checking to make sure everyone had what they needed. So I asked our waiter was this young lady a manager and he stated oh yes ma'am, she is. Is there anything that I can help you with. Even he tried to rectify the obvious problem. The only time she approached us was to bring the check and even then did not ask if we enjoyed our meal or any acknowledgment. So, although the food and our waiter was a good representation of the restaurant, she was not and because of that, we will choose to patronize other establishments that do not make us feel like we...
Read moreRacism discrimination, and really bad, mean customer service. Originally, I just want to get a coffee to go and use a bathroom. When I asked the front desk, the black girl just said we don’t have bathrooms for public. I told her do you have bathroom for customers cause I really want a coffee either? She said we do have for customers. I told her I will buy a coffee so I think I should be a customer and could be able to use the bathroom? She said ok today is Christmas that’s fine and point out where the bathroom is.l by she’s very mean tone. I was not happy that what you mean today is Christmas so it’s fine for me to use bathroom?? It should be regularly open to the customer right? And then my boyfriend just pull me and told me it’s fine we can go out for public restroom. But I really need a coffee and it’s that front desk girl fault, so I go inside to ask the other front desk guy where I can get a coffee? He point out the bar desk I can order there. Then I went to bar table and wait, and wait, everyone looks busy there so I was very confused who I can ask for a coffee in this HardRock CAFE? Then I quickly asked a guy just passed me he said they only have regular coffee, I said it is ok I can get that one. Then he just left and didn’t responded anything for me. I only can wait for next guy to ask. Then I wait couple minutes and finally get the other guy to ask, then the next bar people told me they don’t have coffee! Finally I waste my time here over ten minutes and get rude “customer service” with no coffee to drink. I think this CAFE should mark no coffee, no Asian, and no bathroom on the front door. BTW, the California law request all restaurants should open restroom for public by healthy code. Whatever, if you want to try the worst restaurant in this world , this is a correct...
