Rice Roll Express is a semi-self-serve place that serves rice rolls and dumplings in Chinatown. Food is decent, and quite speedy, and price is quite reasonable, not that there's much service.
The location is on Stockton in the middle of Chinatown. So don't expect any parking. However, it's not very busy, probably because the prices are a bit high by Chinatown dimsum standards. Typically, cheungfun are in the 3-5 dollar range, but this place has them in the 8-10 range. It does have a lot of fillings.
You order at the counter and pay first. Then they give you a number and call you when your order is ready on a tray. There's also a sauce and utensil station where you pick up, so you can customize a little on how you want to sauce your cheungfun and dumplings.
The cheungfun is quite good, soft and hot, and quite full of fillings, which can be further customized for extra cost (like extra meat, extra egg, and so on).
Unfortunately, the seats are hard wood benches and difficult to sit on.
May have to go back and try their...
Read moreI’ve been wanting to try this restaurant since they first opened & finally made it today! It was beyond worth it. I went in the mid-afternoon around 2:30pm. I did have to go to an ATM nearby as they only accept cash at this point. A bit inconvenient, but besides that, great prices, quick service, & delicious food. I’d heard about wait times of 15-30 minutes, but despite there being a steady flow of people at this time my order came out in no more than 5-10 minutes. I ordered the plain (with egg) & shrimp rice rolls then asked what the person at the front would recommend. They said beef, so I had my spread. I added on bean sprouts (one of my favorite veggies) to the former two rice rolls & scallions to the latter recommendation. The beef roll was probably my favorite - so a great rec, indeed! I will say I wish there were sauces aside from soy sauce available, but other than that the soy sauce did just fine in enhancing the flavors of each roll. All in all, I am VERY pleased & already can’t wait to go...
Read moreGreat place to get my rice noodle fix (my favorite dim sum) for under $10! The rice noodle with beef order and rice noodle w shrimp order came under $7 each. Comes with their own cool packet of sweet soy sauce, not quite as sweet as the dim sum style in restaurants; but the noodle texture is nice and silky. Still good for takeout the day after as well. There are tables to sit down and eat too, pretty clean. You can buy rice noodle rolls at other nearby hole-in-the-walls for a bit cheaper, but typically their quality and quantity can be a hit or miss. Rice Roll Express here seems to be a reliable go-to, to be added to my Bookmarks. Quick service, pay in cash or QR code for Venmo/Zelle, no card. Located in the middle of Chinatown so it's best to visit if youre already on foot going through the area, or bussing in via Muni. Instead of parking within a 1 mile radius, drop a friend off to pick it up if you need to...
