My overall review of Chinese Hospital is 2 stars but I have individual reviews for each dept.
Pharmacy in SF: Zero stars It's like waiting at the DMV. Staff are curt due to high volume of customers and staff burn out. Pharmacists do not have time to speak to you. Pharmacy usually do not have time to write the medication directions in Chinese which leads to problems for those who do not read English.
Pharmacy in Daly City: 4 stars Minus one star because you have to do your own calling to your prescribing physicians for refills. Pharmacy only sends a fax and if your clinician is non-response, then you have to call your doctors office. The pharmacy closes 30 mins prior to the printed office hours.
Blood draw in SF: 4 stars Long wait times due to high volume of patients. The phlebotomists here are more skilled than those at LabCorp or Quest.
Blood draw in Daly City: 5 stars They use Quest specimen bags. Do they outsource to Quest?
Imaging (x-ray, ultrasound, etc): 5 stars (SF & Daly City)
Primary Care clinic at Daly City: 2 stars The front office staff are incompetent. The appointments are rushed due to the limited time the clinicians have with their patients. Blame the system, not the doctors. I do not recommend this primary care clinic.
Medical Records (SF): 5 stars A very kind women works here. Her office is the size of a janitors closet. No windows.
Billing Dept: 1 star They do not bill the correct insurance. They also send me other people's bills to my address.
Emergency Dept (ED): 3 stars There is no triage nurse at the lobby. You check-in with the clerk and wait in the lobby. I think there were less than a dozen patient rooms in this dept. This ED is small and has limited capacity. Don't expect immediate assistance if you're walking in with stroke symptoms or moderate bleeding. There are horror stories of patients dying in the lobby waiting area. Best to arrive by ambulance.
In-patient hospital stay: 2 stars This hospital is marginally better than Seton in Daly City, but still is at the bottom of my list of preferred hospitals in this area. I'm not impressed by the quality of care. I've brought up the medical errors I noticed and the nurses were not interested in making corrections. The floor nurse did notify her nurse manager via phone and was relayed to inform me that they are short-staffed and they are doing the best they can. By the time my elderly family member was discharged home, she was no longer able to walk because she was not allowed to get out of bed to walk during the hospitalization. Additionally, there were no nursing staff willing to help with ambulating to the toilet, or allow transferring out of bed and onto a chair. The staff would willfully assist after family members escalate the issues up the chain of command. I think this organization is a mess and it lacks leadership. There is no compassionate care at this facility. The room size is comparable to other hospitals. They serve American food; sometimes they have...
Read moreMy mother was coming in for blood infusion. She was checked in the hospital at around 2 pm. While waiting, I asked the nurse how long she needed to wait, she said that she wasn’t sure. Then I asked her to estimate it. She said about 1-2 hours. Then I asked if she could have some thing to eat while waiting. She said the eating would be the last part, after finishing the blood infusion. I said that would be very late, my mom would be very hungry. The nurse said, she had to wait, later on they can order something for her from the hospital kitchen. Although I disagree with her, I accept her explanation. However, at6:40 pm, my mom I was still waiting for the blood. A nurse came in to ask if my mom wanted some dinner. I said why the changed what they said. They said , oh , you can eat. My sister rushed back home to get some hot food for her. What I am complaining is that the nurse In That evening didn’t answer my question with concerns and care. Giving me mixed messages, regardless the patient’s real situation and needs, responding patient’s relative carelessly. Show very little respect and are toward the patient. Very...
Read moreThroughout the past 2 years - my mom visited the ER three times. Her last visit was on 7-11-17. During the 31-hour ordeal...the compassion and the quality of care that my mom received from the ER and 3rd floor nurses & doctors was extremely heartfelt. Due to our previous visits, we recognized all the nurses immediately...which created a humbling and serene atmosphere. Not only did ER nurse Lana and RN Supervisor Nadia take care of my mom-they took care of me. My mom passed away peacefully. There was absolutely no pain or discomfort to speak of. I am so blessed and grateful to God for watching over my mom and my family during this most difficult time. Special thanks to nurse Yoko (3rd floor) for taking such delicate care of my mom during her final hours. We are forever grateful to the Chinese Hospital staff for their dedication to their professions♥️ Diane...
