My wife and I were visiting San Francisco from our home on the east coast and we decided to try to hunt down a good Indian restaurant as there are virtually no good options in our hometown. We were led to this spot after seeing the good google review. This was one rare instance where google steered us wrong.
First of all- we never complain at restaurants and we've both worked in restaurants and understand that things happen. My wife ordered a lamb dish and it arrived to the table severely dry and overcooked- to the point of it being barely edible, like it was left in the oven for 5 extra hours. We debated complaining but ultimately I motioned to the waiter/hostess to the table to explain the problem. They were very rude and offended that we had complained about their food, and instead of fixing it or making a new one, they asked if we wanted something else. They made it seem like it was our fault that they served a dish that 99% of people would not want to eat. They suggested another dish that arrived edible but wasn't great. The staff stared at my wife eating the new dish from the counter across the restaurant. At this point the restaurant was completely empty other than us during dinner time- that should be your red flag. It was a really uncomfortable, intimidating, awkward and unpleasant experience. Overall just very disappointing considering the experience we've had at other Indian restaurants. Good customer service isn't this hard. Avoid this...
Read moreFirst the good things-The food(whatever we could eat)was good and the ambience was nice. The reason for the 1 star for this restaurant was the mixup done by the server(a girl whose name I don’t know) and the inconsiderate behavior from the host. We were visiting SFO and ended up here looking for some good Indian food. We found that they served Thalis and as we were running late for an event we called them beforehand to keep the Thalis ready and save sometime. On arrival we were made to wait for 30minutes before some food came out of the kitchen. To our surprise it was not a Thali and it was a Three course meal for 4 people! That is what a Thali for these people was!!!They charged 85$ for it! When we asked them what’s going on,instead of being considerate they blamed us for it. We were running short of time so we just paid the bill, got all the food packed and gave it to the homeless. This restaurant should teach its servers to explain the guests about their food and use some common sense as why 2 people would order food for 4-5 people. Know what a Thali is and don’t mislead the customer. Work towards better customer service rather than just thinking of...
Read moreMy wife and I ate at the Royal Indian Cuisine on Filmore last week. We had walked by the place many times in the past, but this time we decided to give it a try. The place from the outside is unassuming, while inside it is very comfortable. Clean, neat, with comfortable chairs. A good start. We were greeted by a very pleasant server who welcomed us. After reading the menu - so many choices! - we ordered the papadam (which was complimentary), somosas, saag paneer, lamb korma, and butter and garlic naan. Everything, start to finish, was excellent. The best Northern Indian meal we've ever had. The service was exemplary. Another sign that the restaurant is very popular with locals was the many pickups for take-out. The only reason I rated the atmosphere at four starts was because the restaurant was just a bit noisy for my old ears. We had a thoroughly enjoyable experience for a very reasonable price, and look forward to our next meal at Royal...
