San Francisco, you're still way too damn delicious!

I love ice cream in general. I come from the Midwest which has the holy grail of frozen desserts - Jeni’s, Graeter’s, Mitchell’s, Aglamesis - and the closest I’ve been able to find on the West Coast is Humphrey Slocombe and Rick’s. I tried this tiny shop because I am always on the lookout for good vegan flavors. The flavors I tried were extremely fresh; they make everything in house. They were both very smooth in texture and melted easily, and they came with a very cute wafer on top. The chocolate was intensely cocoa flavored and also extremely sweet in a way that made it cloying - it reminded me of eating a bunch of Hershey’s special dark chocolate (which I consider too sweet and not that great). It was a little bit chalky. The oat milk coffee cardamom was the opposite, it had almost no flavor - it didn’t really taste like espresso and only had a faint hint of cardamom - but it was very milky in a great way that made it indistinguishable from dairy flavors. When you put the two together, the coffee got totally overwhelmed by the chocolate, and it as almost impossible to eat the whole thing because it was just too sugary. The owner was talkative but not super warm or friendly. He seemed a little transactional and indifferent. I wouldn’t go back, but if you do, maybe try the fruit flavors instead to see if those are more balanced.

This gelato was the bomb! Best rec ever from internet peep’s reviews. It was my first visit here and the recommendation was great! Loved how flavorful these were melting in my mouth! Every bite made me salivate it longer. The richness of the dark chocolate was excellent. The coffee flavor was a little disappointing but it was overall a 9/10. I didn’t know the small size holds 1-2 flavors until I looked carefully. $6 for two flavors, yes please. They only offered two samples per a person so I advise ice cream lovers to choose wisely cause these flavors were too good to not wanna sample more 😋 highly recommend it to anyone new in town that wants legit gelato.

Listen imma let you finish but PHILMORE CREAMERY HAS THE BEST. FROZEN TREAT. IN SAN FRANCISCO. Maybe of all time.

BEST IN THE WEST; A WOULD-BE BEAST OF THE EAST; THE DESSERT FOR QUEENS ANYWHERE IN BETWEEN.

It's Gelato and Sorbetto, but I promise it's the greatest of all frozen treats of all time. And I am a woman who likes a good frozen treat.

The flavors change like, every day?? Which is an awesome surprise??? And they're not boring flavors. Get a scoop of rose petal, AFFOGATO!!! Grab a double of stracietella (also AFFOGATO, maybe I'm just a caffeine fiend).

The young folks employed there are wonderful; always very sweet notwithstanding the struggle they must face serving scoops to all manner of tourist and townie in an affluent shopping district for what I assume is potentially a wage below what they might be entitled (speculative, but I might put money on it).

Thanks, PC. You'll always be my endless love.

Philmore Creamery is cute and has a comfortable atmosphere. They have 3 vegan sorbetto and 9 gelato flavors. I tried the dark chocolate sorbetto, which the server said was just water, sugar, and dark chocolate. It was extremely rich and creamy, I would have never known there was no milk-base. It’s pretty similar to a gelato and not very similar to a sorbet. I got a small cup and it’s actually difficult to finish because it’s so rich. I also like that the cups they serve their gelato/sorbetto in are compostable and the spoons are recyclable, and I especially like that they clearly label that on their bins so people know where to put them. I’ll...
