We'd been dying to come here and try their $16 anniversary special Lobster Roll, and I finally made it out with my husband and son. The roll comes in two versions--hot or cold--and given the chilly weather, we all went for the hot one.
When the rolls arrived, I couldn't help but wonder if the portion size had been trimmed down for the special price. My son and husband lucked out with generous chunks of lobster claw, while mine was mostly shredded meat. Still, it was hot, buttery, and hit all the right notes. At $16, it's a great deal--but if I had to pay the regular $27 price, I might not be quite as satisfied. Lobster Roll: 4/5
We also shared the clam chowder, and wow! It was thick, creamy, and packed with flavor. We found ourselves scraping the bottom of the bowl to savor every last drop. At $12, it's an excellent value. Clam Chowder: 5/5
Next up: the Baja Style Fish Tacos. Possibly the messiest, most delicious fish tacos I've ever had. Three tacos for $21 feels like a fair price given the flavor and quality. Baja Style Fish Tacos: 5/5
We wrapped things up with the San Francisco Cioppino. This rich seafood stew came topped with two small slices of toasted bread, lightly seasoned and finished with cheese. It included three crab legs, a shrimp, two clams, three mussels, and a generous portion of fish at the bottom. By the time it arrived, I was already full, so my husband and son powered through. Hearty and flavorful with just a touch of spice--but for $32, I was hoping for something a bit more substantial. Cioppino: 4/5
As for the service, I'd give it a 3.5--maybe a 4 on a generous day. While we were waiting to be seated, the host seemed to jump around the waitlist. I wasn't sure of the logic behind it, so I politely pointed out that we were all present and noted where we were on the sign-up sheet. She rolled her eyes and curtly said, "We need a table to seat you." I just smiled and said, "I understand, thank you."
Things didn't improve much once we were seated--our server was inattentive, and my husband and son had to wave her down just to get water refills. My husband, who works in hospitality, was sympathetic and reminded me that it was clearly a busy night with the anniversary special...
Read moreMy wife chose this place for dinner by request of my daughter for Fish n Chips. When you're in the city, you have a choice of almost any food you can think of but we like to go seafood whenever possible. This was an excellent choice. We ordered the Cioppino, Lobster Roll with a side of Salad vs. fries or chips (default options) and of course, fish n chips. Got me a Scrimshaw Pilsner to pair because it was a special occasion (and I like beer). The Cioppino came with 2 pieces of toast and the classic mussels, clam, crab, fish, scallops, 1 shrimp (I would have thought 2 would have been more appropriate, in a nice tomato/wine based sauce (I am guessing on the total ingredients so some may be wrong/missing). It was very good. The crab in particular was in great volume and had really goos fresh taste. The mussels were also well-meated. The tomato taste was light and not tart and the wine flavor was apparent but not overwhelming or overpowered by the tomato (still guessing there was wine in it). The Lobster Roll was served warm, not hot as the options were chilled or warm. Typically the Lobster Rolls I have had were cold. This was the best roll I have ever had and warm is definitely the way. The bread was soft tender and flavorful and the lobster tasted fresh and yummy and had good volume for a roll. The Fish n Chips were good and came with a side of Tartar sauce and coleslaw and thin fries (not shoe string thin but thin). The slaw and the tartar were the stars of this show. I want to say the tartar was less tart than normal and more cool/crisp. My guess is that it had cucumber in it and went great with the fish and the fries. Yes. I dip my fries in white sauces. The slaw was just plain good. The FnC also came with a side of garlic bread. The venue has both indoor and outdoor but you will need to prove vaccination with indoor. This place is good and the food is quality. I...
Read moreI've bookmarked this place for so long!! Finally got a chance to make it out to the Fillmo' (*the NICE part of Fillmore) this weekend. I didn't come here specifically since there's always a crowd everytime I walk by.. but it was 2 PM on a Saturday and there was only two of us. There were people standing outside (still) but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask how long the wait time was. 10-15 minutes?! DEAL.
The place isn't too big, maybe 30-40 people? They keep it really clean and nice.. the interior and decor is reminiscent of someone's vacation by the beach - super cute!
Service is really nice and food came surprisingly fast (like, 10 minutes after ordering!)
Opted for: Cup of clam chowder ($7) - pretty good clam chowder: good, creamy consistency but kinda wish it had more clam flavor.
1/2 lobster roll ($18 - pictured) - HUGE, fresh pieces of lobster - thankfully they did not skimp!..... ate half of it in like, 3-4 bites (:x I hella devoured it)..... I like that they kept the mayo-sauce so you could still enjoy the lobster on its own.. but I think it could have used some pepper or something (hey, nothing you can't do yourself!). They used a toasted piece of white bread, which was a bit disappointing - if they used a high quality roll, it would have taken it to the next level. But really good nonetheless if you are a lobster lover :) Came with a heap of fries and coleslaw - which were just OK. If the fries were a taaaaad crispier, it would have been better.. Or hey, maybe it would have been better if I ordered a beer ;)
3-piece fish & chips ($15: 2 piece was $12) - the pieces of fish were HUGE!! I think one person would be fine with the 2 piece. The fish was fresh and the batter was light and crispy. Definitely among the best I've had in the city so far!
Would like to return someday for happy hour if I have a random Tuesday off.. and also to try their crab melt or...
