Dim Sum Corner is a casual, kid-friendly restaurant conveniently located a few blocks from Dragon Gate in Chinatown. We went because my 11-year-old nephew wanted to try dumplings for the first time. He and my 8-year-old niece liked the chicken dumplings the most. They tried the pork xiao long bao (soup dumpling) but didn't enjoy them as much, even when we showed them how to slurp the soup first.
The rest of my family enjoyed their food. My sister and I got the vegetarian dumplings and bao (steamed buns). Both were tasty, though the bao could have used a little more filling. The rice dishes were also very good, with enough for leftovers.
The restaurant provides counter service and staff bring your food out on paper plates. Service was friendly and efficient.
I'd recommend Dim Sum Corner if you have kids and/or you don't have time or energy to venture further into Chinatown. It's fine for what it is. If you're looking for a more extensive menu or more elaborate experience, there are other great...
Read moreDuring our first visit to Chinatown, we searched for a nice restaurant and finally discovered this gem! This food place is lovely and suitable for all groups. The menu and pricing are straightforward and reasonable. We ordered noodles, popcorn chicken, and a rice plate. Our kids enjoyed everything except the rice plate, which we found unappealing due to its unfamiliar taste. The ambiance and atmosphere are excellent, with an efficient "order and occupy" table concept where food is promptly delivered to your table. The restrooms were clean and well-maintained, and the order taker was polite and helpful with menu recommendations. Although they initially missed one of our ordered items, they promptly corrected the mistake with our help. Overall, this is an excellent spot for a lunch or dinner pitstop in Chinatown,...
Read moreI hadn't been to San Francisco Chinatown in awhile. When my friends and I saw a new restaurant that looked "modern," we decided to try it. I ordered the 4-piece pot stickers ($6.66) and the 4-piece "sugar puffs" ($4.66). With tax, my total was $12.28.
My pot stickers tasted fine (not delicious) but were a bit small for the price ($6.66).
My "sugar puffs" were a HUGE disappointment. They were very, very greasy. When I took a bite, I had a grease explosion in my mouth. I've had "sugar puffs" from REAL Chinese restaurants and they are FANTASTIC: dryer (less greasy), lighter and DELICIOUS.
My friends were equally disappointed with their entrees. We will not be going back to Dim Sum Corner in SF Chinatown. If you want authentic Chinese cuisine, go to a REAL Chinese restaurant. They're everywhere in...
