Damaged Pendant and Missing Stones After Paid Repair – Refused Accountability
I brought my silver jade pendant to Anita Jewelry (500 Grant Ave, San Francisco) on September 12, 2025 for prong repair and rhodium plating. I paid $150 in cash that day, and on September 15, we agreed over text to add rhodium plating for an additional $55, which I paid in cash when I picked up the pendant on September 20.
Instantly, I noticed the finish was blotchy, uneven, and not professionally plated. I immediately contacted the business the same day, returned the pendant, and Anita agreed to redo the work.
When I picked it up again on September 26, the pendant was in worse condition than when I first dropped it off — the surface still had scratches, blotches, and multiple moissanite stones were missing. I was never notified about any missing stones during repair.
I have before-and-after photos, text message records, and even the jeweler’s own photo (with Apple metadata) showing the pendant in their possession on September 25, 2025 with a missing stone. Anita later claimed the work was done properly, but her own photo contradicts that — the metadata shows the image was taken at another jewelry business (Zaki’s Jewelry), proving it was still being handled when the damage occurred.
Despite clear evidence and a formal demand letter, Anita Jewelry refused to take accountability or issue a refund. Instead, she offered excuses and denied responsibility.
I have since filed a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the California Department of Consumer Affairs, and I am preparing a Small Claims Court case.
UPDATE: After I filed a BBB complaint, Anita Jewelry responded with multiple false statements that contradict documented proof. Her BBB reply claimed she “sent me photos during the procedure” — which is untrue. The only photo she ever sent was after the job, and that image (with embedded metadata) shows a missing moissanite stone while the pendant was still in her possession.
She also stated I was “very happy” when picking up the pendant. That is false — Anita did not even meet with me that day; her store associate handed me the pendant while I spoke with her over the phone, during which she made excuses for the poor finish and told me to “put the stone back.”
The pendant I entrusted to her was in near-perfect condition except for loose prongs. When returned, the plating was blotchy, uneven, and multiple stones were missing. I paid for professional rhodium plating and prong repair — instead, the item was damaged while under her care.
I have before-and-after photos, payment receipts, timestamps, and Anita’s own photo confirming the missing stone before pickup. The BBB and the California Department of Consumer Affairs are both reviewing this case.

Read moreI had been searching for a women's lavender jade saddle ring for ages and finally found the prefect jade piece during a trip to Hong Kong. The next challenge was finding a jeweler to set it injury a ring. I visited Anita just 2 weeks before Christmas, knowing her schedule was already packed. Anita is not only a professional craftsman but also a delightful person to work with. Despite the holiday rush, she agreed to take on the project and assured me it would be ready in time. The ring turned out absolutely stunning, beyond what I had imagined. It fit my daughter perfectly and she loves it. If you're looking for a jeweler who combines exceptional skill with a wonderful personality, I highly recommend Anita. She delivered a beautiful piece of jewelry that will be...
