Love bunny and I visited Sun Maxim's Dim Sum while passing through. We had a great time and will definitely return. (She says early tomorrow morning.)
Responding mostly to the previous reviews:
(1) mid-afternoon visit, lots of variety in stock, was able to mix-and-match items on plate to try a bit of everything*
not even close to "everything" -- they've got way more than any group could work through in one or four visits...
(2) very friendly and helpful staff, eager to help us check things out
(3) very inexpensive, very fresh, very tasty, worthwhile visiting when you're near-by. (If you live across town near another dim sum place it's probably not worth your whining about it...)
(4) very clean, no waiter, you're actually going to have to walk back to the counter to eyeball the tasty things and order what you want to eat
(5) they've got a microwave, and when something was "warm but not hot" they were happy to zap it for us
(6) teas, coffees, other drinks, sweet milk, etc. More than I was able to wrap my head around.
Also, absent-minded love bunny left her wallet on our table in the back during one of our frequent flights to the front counter. One of the cooking staff noticed and stood guard until we returned. THAT'S IMPRESSIVE and says a lot about the working...
Read moreIt's a 3.5 for me! The employees were very friendly and welcoming but most of the food I tried was just okay. Don't know if it was just an off day when I came in but I would avoid the dim sum.
SHRIMP RICE NOODLE Thin skin, nice texture, and yummy! At first glance, it looks like a great portion but the parts with the shrimp are placed on top and the bottom has the leftover rice noodles. I'd order it again though because this is the closest place to me with fresh rice noodles.
SIU MAI & SHRIMP DUMPLING Meh. These were barely warm and got cold and hard so fast. Doesn't taste fresh either - would not recommend.
CHICKEN FEET & SPARE RIBS (S) The spareribs were chewy and really greasy. I felt like there was a coat of oil stuck in my throat afterwards. The chicken feet was too sweet and the sauce was very chunky and gelatinous - no bueno. The way it's served just makes me think they plate cold food, microwave it, and serve it. I do love getting freshly...
Read moreGood food at a fair price. Here's a copy of my unbiased Yelp review on Sun Maxim's... (yes, unbiased, lol.).... This review is in two parts.
Food: The cheong fun (rolled noodles) were exceptional. The skins were made to perfection, similar that of Hong Kong Teahouse back in the 1970s. No regular chef can make this style without real Shaolin training. Sooo smooth and delicate!
The seaweed siu mai was unique and most tasty. The rIce clay pots were such a old school treat.
Service: Where in the heck did you find Ms. Helen? She really makes this little gem shine a DIAMOND * Palace! So friendly like I had known her for years.
Sun Maxim's should be a...
