Tartine is an institution when it comes to bakeries. An SF landmark that has earned its place in top spots that define San Francisco in the 3rd decade of this century.
Unlike the tiny bakery a couple miles east, the manufactory is a large space, and a great place for sit down breakfast, lunch or coffee and desserts.
First off, you can book outdoor seating on their website. Parking is easy and checkin was easier. Based on your dietary preference, you get a customized menu that flags items you do not want to eat.
After you get a table, you scan the table QR, select items you want to order, make a payment and voila, your food arrives.
Service was excellent. Everyone was so nice, and willing to offer advice on what to order. They also ensured that the chairs were sanitized in the outdoor parklet, along with the table.
Hot water with Meyer lemon is complementary - get that- Meyer lemons here are amazing.
We ordered the cold brew - which felt complex and rich - full bodied if I may say so. Refreshing as it comes with a ton of ice. Perfect for a sunny cold and windy SF day.
Next up is Rockfish crudo. The fish is fresh, lightly drizzled in olive oil, with a tangy zhug and fried garlic topping. The marinade is excellent. Simple. Let’s the freshness of rockfish shine.
We order 2 pizzas. Classic Margherita and Garden with mushroom and arugula. Tartine has the best sourdough crust, and their baking game cannot be beat. The crust is light, airy and crisp. Not thick, not thin, just right. Where they fall a little short is in flavors. The tomato sauce is a little sour, and needs some flavor development. While the cheese is blocky and not very high quality. It could be a supply issue. I would use a high quality mozzarella and top it off with some Parmigiano Reggiano to honor the best crust in SF.
The garden pizza is refreshing but lacks in flavor development. It is subtle, the cheese is better than the Margherita, but needs hot sauce. Their hot sauce with habanero is excellent. Not spicy, but has a tangy kick to it. This makes both the pizzas elevate one notch and compensate for the muted flavors.
Overall a solid 4 on 5. Great service brings it closer to 4.5. If Tartine can work on better cheese and tomato sauce, they can own the pizza game, as they do for...
Read moreIn the morning, I came to Tartine Manufactory with my friend, and we immediately felt the calm and cozy atmosphere. The spacious room with high ceilings and large windows is filled with soft sunlight — it's a pleasure to be inside. We ordered tea, freshly squeezed orange juice, and homemade mint lemonade — all refreshing drinks that were perfect for starting the day. I chose avocado toast with poached eggs, and my friend went for the toast with smoked trout and greens. Everything looked appetizing and tasted delicious: the portions were well-balanced, and the ingredients were incredibly fresh. The sourdough bread was especially memorable — crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with a wonderful aroma. We also shared a cinnamon bun with almond cream — warm, soft, and literally melting in our mouths. After our main breakfast, we decided to try the ice cream: I had pistachio, and my friend chose strawberry sorbet. Both desserts were refreshing, not too sweet, and packed with flavor. The atmosphere was calm, with soft music, warm light, and friendly staff creating a cozy vibe. We really appreciated that there were plenty of vegetarian options, including fish, vegetables, and meatless pastries. Before leaving, we decided to grab something to take away for friends and family. We picked up several croissants — with almond, raspberry, chocolate, and custard. We also added a couple of loaves of sourdough bread, two lemon cream tartlets, a pastry with seasonal berries, a rosemary and sea salt bun, cinnamon rolls, and a few morning muffins. Among them were blueberry, carrot, and orange muffins, as well as a pear pie. We also chose two galettes — one with figs and the other with apricots. Everything was packed very neatly with care. Even the boxes were stylish, just like everything else in this place. We left with full bags and a great mood. Tartine Manufactory is a place where you want to spend your morning and treat others to...
Read moreWe stopped by Tartine Manufactory to grab some takeout and ended up spending around $150 on a spread of delicious items—and honestly, it was worth every dollar. From the cookies and pastries to the avocado toast, smoked salmon toast, and omelet, everything was a hit. Everyone raved about their order.
I’ve been to Tartine Manufactory for both breakfast and dinner, and we’ve tried a wide variety of their baked goods, pastries, and croissants—everything has been consistently excellent. The salmon and avocado toasts were especially memorable—simple but elevated with high-quality ingredients that really made a difference.
We’ve also dined in for dinner and made reservations for their pizza, which is only served in the evening. The service remained fast, though we did have a small hiccup once when an item didn’t arrive and had to be canceled. That aside, we really enjoyed the pizzas—some were better than others, but the meatball pizza stood out. The salads were fresh, and the desserts, of course, were fantastic.
I’ve been a fan of Tartine since the early days and own several of their beautiful cookbooks, so getting to enjoy their food firsthand always feels special. The vibe is super casual, and the service is smooth and efficient—our entire takeout order was ready in about 10 minutes, which was impressive given how busy it was.
The biggest challenge is parking, especially on weekdays. Since it’s in a commercial area, finding a spot—particularly in the morning—can be a nightmare. You might end up circling for quite a while. If possible, walk, bike, or Uber. Weekends are a bit easier, but even then, try to avoid going too early.
All in all, Tartine delivers—whether you’re dining in or grabbing food to-go. The prices are what you’d expect for San Francisco, but the quality speaks for itself. We’re already looking forward to our next visit—especially to enjoy the pizza again and soak in the full experience....
