This is a dim sum place in the Richmond district - Balboa and 36th Avenue. It's so unusual to have a strictly dim sum type of restaurant so far away from Chinatown and Richmond Chinatown (5th to 10th Avenues on Clement Street). Parking is not easy, depending on when you are going. It's street parking in a neighborhood that has many houses with garages.
The outside of the restaurant doesn't look anything different. Once you enter the restaurant, it's spacious. I believe this will be popular for Chinese weddings, baby parties, etc. because there are no obstructed views and the banquet prices are way more reasonable than elsewhere in SF. The food is served temperature hot - it does not sit in a steamer but is made when you order and brought to you immediately. Menu is simple and has most of the expected dim sum dishes. Ingredients are fresh and shrimps in haw gow is whole rather than sliced. The sesame balls outer shell could be thinner with more filling. The scallop dumpling is excellent. It's different - savory and scallop just melts in your mouth. Since I am not a fan of parsley and onions (it reminds me of the old time dim sum where everything had onions and parsley), I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but will come to entertain friends because of its cleanness. Food presentation is excellent. Servers were more friendlier and helpful than the waiter/waitresses. There were no greeter. You need to catch the eye of a waiter or maitre d to be seated. Once seated, the service is hot/cold, depending on how crowed the...
Read moreI recently dined at Taste of Fusion and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. While the food itself was acceptable, the service was shockingly slow. We waited over 40 minutes for our first dish to arrive, and I noticed many other tables filled with frustrated customers also waiting an unreasonable amount of time for their food. For a Chinese restaurant, where speed and efficiency are traditionally valued, this wait time was completely unacceptable. They clearly need to invest in more kitchen staff.
However, the most disappointing aspect of my visit was the questionable ethical behavior of the captain. After finishing our meal, we observed other tables being served a soup-like dessert. When we inquired about it, the captain told us they were running low and he would see if they could spare some for us. Moments later, when the waiter brought our dessert, and he made a point of asking if the portion was sufficient and offered to bring more. This blatant contradiction left us wondering: did they have enough dessert or not? It felt like a dismissive and dishonest way of avoiding serving us.
Overall, my experience at Taste of Fusion was marred by incredibly slow service and questionable behavior from the staff. It embodies the worst stereotypes of some Chinese-run establishments. Good luck if you decide to dine here;...
Read moreThis restaurant exceeded all expectations!! We were looking for a Chinese restaurant that had standard fare like fried rice and chow fun, and almost passed this place up because it the name (Chinese fusion is so hit or miss and rarely done well), but I’m so glad we didn’t. When we entered we were greeted and the staff were all e extremely polite and attentive. The decor is simple, but everything looks new and super clean. We ordered all vegetarian dishes (chow fun, braised tofu and Chinese greens and fried rice), and they accommodated our requests and substitutions. I was super impressed that every dish had a lot of Chinese greens, and the longer greens were cut into bite sized pieces! I hate super long Chinese greens that you have to either keep shoveling into your mouth or gnaw at and hope it breaks, so this was much appreciated. Everything was cooked to perfection, perfectly seasoned, and just overall really delicious! At the end of the meal they brought over complimentary cookies and sweet mochies- such a sweet touch! And finally- the restrooms are spotless! I love that I didn’t have to worry about my daughter finding a clean stall because every single bathroom was so clean. This is easily my new favorite Chinese restaurant...
