This place is described as a study area, but there are no outlets for computers. And the bar format is not exactly comfortable for studying. But that is neither here nor there, I had an unpleasant experience and I will not be coming back.
When I attempted to charge my laptop in an area on the bar (away from any customers, mind you), the waitress in a passive aggressive manner told me it was not allowed. I went to charge my lap top in the front and that worked for the moment.
My brother was going to order, and when he asked me, I said I did not want anything. The waitress heard me, and threateningly told us that if I did not order we would have to pay a hourly fee to study there. Keep in mind, this was 40 minutes before the curfew for laptops, the establishment was half empty, my brother had already agreed to order something, and I never implied I was not going to order at all, only that I did not want something in that moment. The unnecessary aggression was uncalled for. I told my brother to cancel his order and we left. I have no problem paying fees or ordering something, but the waitress' rude behavior made the experience of this place unnecessarily hostile and unwelcome.
Edit: I appreciate the reply; I understand the logic behind needing customers to purchase things to keep the business open, I understand the hourly fee. I only ask that this policy is displayed more clearly so it's very unambiguous (perhaps I missed the signs? I was not in there long admittedly...).
The google maps display is also deceptive, though, because the hours are displayed as the establishment closing at 11pm, which I believe unwittingly draws customers in who come in thinking the business is somewhere they can study until late. Generally, cafes in San Francisco seem to close early, so when they come into this place, they are bound to be upset when they find out the actual "study hours" end at 5 pm. Hopefully, you can find a way to communicate this through the limited interface on google maps. Or maybe you could also offer a list of cafes / establishments at the entrance or bar that accommodate people working/studying late upon entering the place.
For anyone reading this, the Yemeni cafe maybe 20 or 30 minutes by foot away was where I ended up studying, and did not...
Read moreI wanted to like this place but especially for a venue only open from 1-5pm for laptop use, the experience as a whole just fell below my expectations.
When I placed my order I waited over 15 minutes for something that was likely just scooped out from a pan, heated up, and came with a side of cream. This Strawberry Bread pudding tasted of mostly bread, lacked butter, possibly salt, made a barely noticeable custard, and the whipped topping served adjacent to it made it palatable considering I gassed $10 for it. Its more so as if they just forgot about me I dunno. The way the entire place is decked out in "Laptops prohibited after 5pm", the fact that all users were being shuttled out, the entire experience souring my liking of the joint instead of discouraging laptop use or better giving people a more relaxed cutoff, it felt extremely strict. Almost as a bad as having a strict parent taking away your device to go to bed.
My appetite spoiled at the price/quality of my bread pudding and the atmosphere so I took off at...

This place is freakin awesome. Literally in the heart of J-Town. We decided to stop in here since we were super early for Origin and decided to sit and pre-game nearby. This place is literally around the corner.
I LOVE THE INTERIOR OF THIS PLACE. It looks like a study of a rich person's home. Lol. On Saturday night, there was a DJ playing some good 90's jams. The FEELS!
We came in as the drinks were pretty damn inexpensive considering the location and how nice the place looked. I think beers started around $5-6 and cocktails about $8-10? No hard alchy. Keeps the place NOT RATCHET. Kinda nice actually.
Came in around 9 and most of the big tables were taken.. I could see this place getting crowded later on in the night but overall I think it's a nice spot to kick it. Only gripe is that there's only 1 unisex bathroom for the place!
I imagine this place would be SUPER CUTE in the daytime or...
